No reason to stay grounded when you can fly. #drawing #art

A solid bucket list entry is to help someone anonymously without anybody knowing about it. Another good one is to help someone in honor of someone you know or knew in a way they would help.

Are you remembering to not neglect your bucket list? To empty it ahead of life's hourglass? I've been adding a few entries since I've fulfilled about 9/10ths of mine, a realization in itself that's a mixture of comforting and disquieting. Being able to dictate my schedule frees me to pick some more.

A core skill to master is saying no without feeling the slightest need to provide an explanation.

Treat the score as a character that must thoughtfully emote to be most effective and at times emerge commandingly to the forefront for emphasis, interconnect scenes engagingly like a narrator, or recede supportively into the background in deference to the other storytelling elements at play.

To add variety to shots, consider revealing context in the framing. Go from shot A to shot B by cutting between them or by camera movement reframing or by movement of subjects into or out of the frame wherein the context of the former is given to an audience by the new info provided by the latter.

If you don't believe you can do a big project, break it into chunks, small steps. Pick one and do it to prove to yourself you indeed can. Then conquer another small step, building proof to boost your self-confidence. Much easier to correct and redo small steps absent the greater risk of large ones.

Tip: As part of your overall experience, when you visit Paris, get accommodations with a kitchen so you can take advantage of the farmers markets/marchés which are world-class and happen regularly.

ICYDK 180-Degree Shutter Rule says set shutter speed double frame rate for proper audience-expected motion blur human eyes normally experience: 24 FPS use 1/48 shutter, 30 FPS use 1/60 shutter, etc. However, use faster shutter for VFX shots to get non-blur for crisp composites then add blur in post.

Shh... don't tell anyone. There is no magic trick, no mystical portal to leap ahead, no incantation to summon skill. Practice to get better. Learn from yours and other people's mistakes.

Let friends and family know if you have tools they can borrow that are rarely needed but helpful - an easy way to save them money from buying one only to have it sit gathering dust between infrequent use.

The benefits of visiting locales for a few months instead of relocating permanently is the opportunity to experience the place in a non-tourist way without having the expense and paperwork of moving. Provides ample time to explore and learn with the flexibility to immerse in diverse surroundings.

Alternatively, circumnavigating the world can go thru Iceland and still keep each leg of the journey in the air under 7 hours 30 minutes with the longest stretch being Anchorage to Tokyo instead of Cape Town to Rio de Janeiro.

Who are you to not follow your goals, not pursue your passions, not adventure out, not explore the world, not make things a bit better than they were? You're many things but not having courage nor spirit isn't one of them. Gladly bear the burden and relish the reward of striving to achieve dreams.

Always wear protective gloves when handling lighting gear to avoid burns and such, especially from higher wattage lights.

If circumnavigating the world, the trip can be broken down into flights with a maximum 7 hours 40 minutes in the air for any given leg of the journey - that longest stretch being Cape Town to Rio de Janeiro.

Like a jigsaw puzzle, piece by piece. Like a grand staircase, step by step. Like a breathtaking event, moment by moment. Take life one thing after the next guided thoughtfully goal by goal, ambition by ambition, dream by dream. Never know what can be accomplished til you grant yourself permission.

When anyone says only two options exist, they might not be thinking creatively enough to solve dilemmas. Step back, assess the larger picture, and perhaps discover an entirely tangential approach that gets you the desired outcome while neutralizing otherwise seemingly insurmountable dire elements.

Brian Wyant @brianwyant.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

You're clever. You'll figure it out. And you'll be all the happier you gave existence to your intention. You've overcome challenges before or else you wouldn't still be out and about. Partake in possibilities, a bit of confidence in your already demonstrated skills, and a dose of perpetual learning.

000

Brian Wyant @brianwyant.bsky.social · 17/09/2026

Uh-huh... mm-hmm... okay, but did you have fun? Many people have forgotten how to or have unwittingly let others steal their sense of joy and wonder and fun. Don't surrender that to anyone. That's a treasure beyond measure.

010

Brian Wyant @brianwyant.bsky.social · 17/09/2026

If a camera is pointed toward you, remember to blink. Some people shut off their blinking, especially when reading from a teleprompter or recalling lines. It gives a very deer-in-the-headlights vibe that's easily correctable once they realize it's happening. So don't let folk not blink, remind them.

FYI: A Digital Cinema Package (DCP) for showing your film in theaters, including at festivals, can be outsourced or can be created in both Premiere and DaVinci Resolve. Make certain the settings meet any venue or distributor requirements.

Huh, freedom and flexibility. Very strange. Not certain empowering is quite the word. Just different. How intriguing the view from the summit is not what one expected during the arduous ascent.

Not all civilizations last. Not all worlds survive long enough to escape their cocoon and venture permanently out into the darkness to explore the stars. Some become dilapidated husks filled only with fading echoes and phantom memories with nobody left to hear or remember them or to return home.

To be the best kind of influencer, influence yourself: Buy only carefully considered things that make your life more enjoyable. Pay only with credit when fully having funds to pay it off which avoids the interest pit. Ensure intentionality with your valuable time and energy. Aim for your big dreams.

The scavengers and predators fight over the remaining scraps across the barren landscape. They snarl and growl and bite at each other's throats. In their dying confrontations they remain willfully oblivious that the world had already perished and they were the last ghosts-to-be of a fallen era.

Tip: Faster is not always better. When buying a memory card for gear, a faster, more expensive card is a quick way to waste money if the device can't fully take advantage of it. Meanwhile, a slower card that meets what the device can fully utilize becomes the smart money-saving acquisition.

Are you steering your own starship or a passenger on someone else's? Did you chart your own course or just engage auto-pilot programmed by someone else? Did you figure out which star would guide you or not take the time to ponder and decide? Intentionality matters more than most personality traits.

I'd like to see a movie where the people running thru a forest keep swearing as they get stabbed and slashed by the branches instead of magically making it unscathed.

000

Brian Wyant @brianwyant.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

Much of the industry is notoriously noncommittal as everyone wants to leave options open as much as humanly possible. Don't take it personally and don't let it mire your own course of action as you steer your own projects towards completion. Many miss opportunities from endless hemming and hawing.

Assembling an audio kit - cords, mixer, boom, blimp, lavs, et al. Got a nice bag to keep all the gear easily organized, accessible, and transportable. Also putting together a second larger kit if needing to mic more than 4 people concurrently. #filmmaking

Never sell yourself short. Never underestimate your capacity to be creative.

Consider changing your setting for inspiration. Get accustom to tapping your creativity while out and about. I've enjoyed drawing in different country's museums, national parks, along city riverbanks, and on the grounds of castles and palaces.
