iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

I keep setting up micro goals for my free time art. Like sketching while I watch TV with my wife. For a while I was drawing Witcher characters in different styles. Now it's trying to draw people I saw that day, focusing on fashion. Always looking for a new area to play/improve with low stakes.

220

I've been thinking about mine already too. I've got a backlog that jumps styles as I've gotten better over the years, but some of the oldest gags still hold up.

The birthday card turned out pretty good drawing on a low to the ground easel. We randomly rolled up Chick's head on Petal's body, alongside donuts with gummi worms as a topping and a unicorn bicycle as a prize. I think the mad libs turned out pretty good too. #WOTS #KidLit

Mad LIbs text:
Happy 50th Birthday Owl! You have had 50 years of swim-out-loud comics, brain-running puzzles, news and expert advice on topics like the environment, bullying and big baseball, amazing animal profiles (our favourites were the frying pan-tailed cat horse and the volleyball octopus and so much more. Here’s to infinity more years of learning, fun and strawberry sea monsters.

More raccoons on electrical boxes along Yonge, this time by Emily May Rose. #Toronto #StreetArt

Other side of the box, this time one raccoon is literally hanging from the top of the building. Another is inside, against the dark window panes.

Artist! Quote with the artwork you cannot explain! ❔ I have no idea what the message of this could possibly be. I just noticed some things that looked the same shape and took it too far.

A fried egg flying saucer with an astronaut with fork and knife on a tether, approaching a satellite made from a maple syrup bottle with waffle panels. The stars behind include sprinkles.

Vicky Tong's electrical box art, as the stroll up Yonge St goes on. #Toronto #StreetArt

With a red, apple green, blue green, yellow and pale orange palette, a racoon person jogs with a coffee and music blasting headphones along a sidewalk with flowers and pigeons. A TTC bus rolls behind. Another racoon walks past checking their watch. A bar-owl like bird sits on top of a fire hydrant.

Other side of the box has two racoons sitting on a bench, one with a thought balloon of ice cream, the other reading a book. Another racoon looks up at the sun shine with sunglasses, city hall behind them. The TTC bus on this side is a TTC street car. Bees fly around the flowers in the bottom foreground.

Hi Suzanne. I work in fairly animated, cartoony, comic booky styles and enjoy TTRPGs. You can see more of my work at brianmcl.com.

One of those games that had a ton of levels and each with its own level design. Oooh. I should have included Jumpman on the list. Like that and Space Taxi. A lot of great variations on a theme.

120

The 9 that I played most as a kid though were probably these Commodore 64 titles. Maybe Wizardry, the Sierra Quest games or Gold Box TSR games should be on here too. These were often games played with friends.

Space taxi, Lode Runner, Tangled Tales, Archon, Creatures to the Rescue, Batman: The Caped Crusader, Summer Games, Winter Games, and G. I. Joe: A Real American Hero.

211

My 9 games, the ones that I played and replayed the most. The ones with the worlds I wanted to get lost in the deepest. Although Boggle With Friends should be on here for pure amount of time I still play it.

Baldur's Gate 1 2 and 3, Pillars of Eternity: Deadfire, Lego City Undercover, Witcher 3; Wild Hunt GOTY, Dodgeball Academia, TMNT Shredder's Revenge, and Absolum.

A pair of mango books from @owlkids.bsky.social , different but equally fun. What pairs better with mango, than more mango? #KidLit 👍📚

You Pal Fred, The Glitch maintains the top tier energy, with an interesting exploration of anger. Love this post-apocalyptic series, and if you liked the Gladlands you might enjoy it too. #KidLit 👍📚

Flavor Girls Is a beautiful Magical Girl story by way of bande dessinée. First volume doesn't really feel complete, but still well worth a look. #KidLit 👍📚 📚👍

Cassette City not only is about punk rock, it feels punk rock itself. Love the weird world, graffiti, tankosaurus, and how Sitter represents music. #KidLit 👍📚 📚👍

Eowulf: The Creature Connection was really fun. Well intertwined stories, cool monsters, solid gags. Everything I want from this excellent series. @mikecavallaro.bsky.social #KidLit 👍📚 📚👍

2nd DnDoggos book doesn't disappoint. Loved the opening monster! And if your kiddos prefer cats to dogs, there's one who makes a sweet addition to the cast. Great for kids who love TTRPGs like DnD. #KidLit 👍📚 📚👍

Still Friends is a sweet story about stoicism and learning to understand different love languages (among other nuanced elements of friendship). Excellent cartooning too. @troystory.bsky.social #KidLit 📚👍 👍📚

More new Yonge St box art. By AndreaCataRo #Toronto #StreetArt

A box with a dark blue starry sky, purple flowers, green leaves, bees and honeycomb, a white outline floorplan with Yonge written in a flowy 70s font like its for a baseball team.

The other side with more flowers, bees and now cyan butterflies, and block letters that read always in motion.

If you see this, quote with your Night/ Dark Art! 🖤 #darkart

It's autumn and it's raining. We look down on a graveyard where the tombstones are arranged in a circle. In the centre of them is a wide hole with tombstones poking out of the wall, arranged like stairs, leading down into darkness. Three adventurers look wary of the hole. A large dark-skinned woman with armor and a big axe is being held back by a hand motion from a worried purple tiefling. A magenta dragonborn lies on the grass with their head hanging over the edge, trying to get a better look. All three heroes have a day-glow element to their armor or weapons, implying their magical nature in this dreary fall day.

Artists, share your adventuring party art! #TTRPG #ArtShare

In a blue cavern with purple icy mushrooms, a woman in furs barfs and axe shape towards a large creature in armour with a key-shaped weapon with jagged teeth, a keyhole shaped hole in their helmet (revealing a cyclopean eye and key teeth-shaped teeth) and a shield shaped like a padlock, decorate with a pawn shape (which mirrors the keyhole shape). A dwarf with bright green hair has their hair and beard styled into ending in leaf shapes, and he wields a flower-hilted short sword. A blue snake woman use her wand on the cyclops as well. Further back, a woman with a collar shaped like an open book, waves a quill which is making a magic purple hand emanate from her jar of ink-topped staff. From her belt comes a dress but in the middle is also a scroll, furthering her bookish look.

Graphic novel pals, feel free to suggest me to your agent (if you like working with them), as I am back on the querying grind with a graphic novel that would be a perennial selling YA/adult follow up to my award-winning book on comics, that is still in print (3rd or 4th printing)?

Another Yonge St electrical box repaint, this time by Steven Estrella. #Toronto #StreetArt

In reds, purples and oranges, a black man playing a trumpet with electrical energy, the side of the box has a man with a little moustache slurping noodles, could be a cop cap on his head.

A woman with a blue cap and dress, gold chain across her cap and chest, studying a map of the subway with tall building behind her. The narrow side has a wide-smiling person with sunglasses and black and purple pin striped suit with a queer flag pin, taking a picture with a digital camera.

Artists, quote post with a smoking character! These smoking teens are in trouble.

In a cartoon style: On a winter night, on a hill outside of a small town, an 8 to 10 foot tall furry monster has a wicker sack of kids on his back and approaches another group of kids around a campfire with an angry expression and three strapped whip. The kids are drinking kissing, smoking or getting ready to fight Krampus with rocks and sticks. One kid's thrown the first stone.

There's a timeline of Toronto you can add to, including these one about someone's great grandfather who became Canada's first black postman and Charlie Bird Parker playing a plastic saxophone at Massey Hall because he sold his real one the day before.

These ads got me to stop and plan a day to visit the Museum of Toronto, which is small but very cool.

a bikeshare poster display with a large pink arrow and the text site of a cop car left to burn

Same but the arrow points down and there is text explaining how during the g10 there were protests that included kettling and a burning police car.

this one has a yellow arrow and the phrase the birthplace of pregnancy racing

another one with a yellow arrow pointing down and the headline Site of Secret 1950s Rendezvous that has text explaining the King Eddy hotel (across the street in the picture) was a hot spot for queer people to hook up.
