In case anyone is grappling with why the trans community’s voices need to be amplified, or why the BLM movement is so important, the children’s book Fair Shares by Pippa Goodhart was instrumental in teaching my kid about equity. Heres a video of the author reading it: youtu.be/q0WXRY28RJk?...

It’s great! The Tunic songs are killer too. No letter for me unfortunately, and annoyingly I’ve lost the liner notes, which if I remember rightly were a small booklet, but it’s such a treat to listen to these songs again.

Record of the day is the 4x4 compilation on Up Records from (I think) 1995/6. Four tracks each by Appendix Out, Tunic, Kilgore Trout and Brewster, and showcasing Alasdair Roberts at his most indie rock. A true fan favourite (for this fan)

I never thought my 2nd Grade kid would be bringing notices like this home from school. That said, I’m incredibly grateful the city are proactively reaching out to support vulnerable families.

Lo-Fi Bri @brianmck.bsky.social · 23/01/2025
Correct but somebody’s at least buying the CD in the first place so the artist is making some sort of royalty from that product compared to the negligible return through major streaming services.

Both killer eps. Halfway to a Threeway gets a lot of airtime in this house and it’s nice to be reminded of how great the All Most Heaven 12” is. See also the Marquis de Tren & Bonnie Billy 12” which came out around the same time.

Album of the year 2024 This album landed in my life in December and totally disrupted my album of the year plans. Ugandan lukeme player Ekuka Morris Sirikiti’s first studio album on Nyege Nyege Tapes is crucial stuff. It’s simultaneously urgent and hypnotic, and utterly, utterly beautiful. Link👇

Haha - I don’t think I have that but it sounds like exactly the sort of thing I would have. I live near Byron Coley’s record store these days which has killer VT vibes but it just ain’t the same…

Mad Nanna, yes!! VT opened the door to so much antipodean weirdness. I’m gutted I missed the show (I can’t even remember why I missed it) but the record rules! What was your pre-Kanues vehicle? Very likely I have that CD-R

Sizewell C is a 3.2GW project. £40bn will buy you approx twice that capacity in offshore wind farms, and they’ll have a fraction of the operating costs, and let’s not even talk about decommissioning…

Diving deep into Bleed by The Necks. This is some pretty sublime ambience, picked up on the back of some ace recommendations. I’m on my 3rd spin and don’t see this leaving my turntable today. (Rare January treat of it being so light out that I can’t photograph the sleeve without mad reflections!)

Songs: Ohia - Protection Spells. So great to revisit this old friend, having been given some long-overdue vinyl treatment. A mightily impressive collection of single-take improvised songs, as haunting, jarring and intense as anything else Molina has penned. Crucial stuff
