This summer I learned to 1) solve a Rubik’s cube 2) finger whistle. And thus the great conjunction has been enacted.

Was searching my photos for something else and stumbled upon this “SP” mark I designed for Scholastic over a decade ago. It was killed and never used. Probably the best mark I ever designed and it never saw the light of day lol.

A piece of original art from a nonfiction book showing the mechanics of a heart with the blood color coded as red and blue depending on if it’s coming or going.

Damn I LOVE teaching design criticism. Let me tell you, my students get all the way down to the heart of things.

Chat bubble: I think it builds on the idea that design can be a weapon

Last week I shared that I’m hiring a junior designer, but, also, our trade art department as a whole has a total of 5 open roles right now. All new seats, not from turnover. 💙❤️ scholastic.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/External

Photoshop’s whole *Save-As…/Save-a-Copy…* some-file formats-only-under-one-option situation is truly WTF.

When I was 5 years old they found a tumor in my ankle. I was terrified to get surgery. For me, this book was EVERYTHING. I totally get how art can do the same thing.

Teaching typography at Pratt this semester has been a good reminder of how much page juggling craziness happens to our files after we release them to the printer in order to get them to behave like a straightforward book. Shout out to the printers of the world, I see you.

I LOVE the taste of passion fruit. I HATE the texture of passion fruit. These little frozen cubes of cleaned passion fruit are one of my favorite things.

The Wordpress theme that I was using on the site for “Undefined by Design”—the exhibition at Lorimoto Gallery of art by graphic designers that I curated in 2014—broke. So I replaced the site with a simple hand-coded HTML page that just serves a PDF of the show catalog. www.undefinedbydesign.com

Found this recently. Made it in 1997. Hilarious.

An ink drawing of a little guy with 3 fingers holding up a peace sign and smoking a cigar, or a blunt, in front of a tile wall that was generated with and early version of Photoshop. There is also a lens flair and then for some reason the word ATLANTA low res and transparent overlaying the left edge lol.

One thing the bots have been doing today is quoting my posts without text, serving them up to other bots. Did you know that you can detach quote posts on @bsky.app?
