But I digressed...when ungrading was working I was quite pleasantly surprised by the distributions of their grade requests.

That was a similar breakdown for my students...around 2021-2023. But gpt has been making it harder for me to get students to own their work. Our admin actually encourages students to launder their writing. Students are procrastinating more making it harder to maintain an ungrading frame.

Back in the 90s a prof of mine joked and ridiculed a similar study: people who run/jog were more likely to die of cancer ( the criticism was that it wasn't causing camcer: heart disease, for them, was no longer the number one cause of death).

So you all are absolutely doing a type of science, even if it isn't a textbook example of a random controlled trial.. Keep it up!

To organize past work to help explain a different paradigm. That word systematic is one of the key concepts that I was taught in graduate school about what science is: Science is the systematic organization of a body of knowledge tied to experience, or empirical evidence.

About science as a critical thinking exercise where you're ruling out other explanations. In fact that's a major component of Jon Stewart Mills Three necessities to establish cause. What triggered me to write this was when Nick used the word systematic to describe the work he and others have done

Hey, I'm listening to your podcast on market humanism and I just want to encourage you all to think differently about your own definitions of what science is. There are many, we typically teach in middle school and high school the scientific method and then just stop. But it's useful to

Amazingly bulletproof. have flushed it all out and have been cautiously driving it and I'm not seeing any major problems yet but instead of this repair lasting hundreds of thousands of miles it might last 10k for all I know Because I ignored the warning; I'm a grown man what the hell was I thinking

All of my coolant. But it gets worse and here's the part that I still lose sleep over: As my temperature gauge began to rise above normal operating temperature I talked myself out of thinking it was a problem. And proceeded to overheat my engine I may have lucked out because these engines are

Well you can probably guess where this is going but it gets worse because as I am slowly breaking in the head I take it out on the highway and give it some juice and I think that paper towel created a clog that created some pressure that blew one of my radiator hoses off a tube and I lost...

I'll do you one better. I just replaced the head gasket and the head, and the cam of a Toyota 22RE engine things are going fine until a slight leak at the water pump required me to take it apart and I failed to find a little shop paper towel that I use to plug the port during the repair...

Meh, seems like this should have happened about 6 years ago. I've always said that at some point the GOP will need an exit strategy. They have had many opportunities, especially with the Epstein files...but here we are. I'm leaning more towards "let's not underestimate stupidity"

There really isn't a unifying theory within psychology to guide the hypothesis generating process. My young students generate research ideas as Julia described and I often ask them why they would think 'that'. Their answers were never theory, just anecdotal stories.
