My main issue though is the strategic placement at the edge of the planning authority’s responsibility. With no real accountability to those affected. I also note that their “public meeting” for locals is in a minor village hall about 5 km from the site and even further from Trafford.

The main concern is the argument used and reality. Innova claims to be a green energy company and argues that the waste heat will be used locally. This is very unlikely as there is no adjacent new build to use it.

Before you think I am in full NIMBY mode, give me space. This is a large development in about 80% greenfield farmland - mostly livestock/dairy round here. The rest is old road no longer used with a new link road in place and land that was formerly earmarked for HS2 into Manchester.

I have received a flyer from Innova Data Centres about a proposal for a data centre about near me. It needs 400 MW power and 60 hectares. Cunningly, it is positioned just over the border in East Cheshire rather than in Trafford (Manchester City Region) where the majority of the affected people live.

It’s probably a female sparrowhalk, they are reasonably common in gardens but are usually lurking in bushes to ambush songbirds.

I seem to be cursed when using Eurostar. Held up today by an “incident” at Brussels Midi which closed the station as the police cleared a suspect package. This left my train in Lille for 30 min and another 30 min delay getting in slowly as the train jam ahead unravelled.
