We're planning on biking into Zion tomorrow, but a rockfall has closed the east entrance indefinitely. What would have been a 30 minute drive to get the bikes is now almost 2 hours because we have to go all the way around and there is no easy route.

My pictures do not do the scenery any sort of justice.

We made it from Keystone, CO to Orderville, UT for the next few days. The drive through Utah was spectacular with way more variation in landscape than I anticipated.
A large canyon.A winding road through a mountain forest with rocky cliffs in the distance.

We left Keystone, CO this morning and are cruising west toward Utah. The geology of western Colorado is fascinating.

@cogdog so now we're trying to figure out how to get to Bryce this week 😅 We leave CO tomorrow and then have a bike rental for Thursday in Zion. We think we can squeeze Bryce in on Friday, but it'll kind of depend on how the kids are doing.

We're heading off this morning to see if we can spot a moose. We caught a fleeting glimpse of one as it ran across the road yesterday, so we're hoping to have a better look during the sunrise.

We left Fort Morgan this morning and spent the early afternoon in Estes Park. Then we drove south through some spectacular mountain scenery and landed in Keystone for the next few days. St. Catherine's Chapel on the Rock was one of the coolest places I've ever been.
A stone chapel is in the foreground built up on a stone foundation. Long's Peak rises in the distance. The whole family with Long's Peak in the background.

@cogdog through Colorado and into Utah. We're staying in Kanab and caravaning out to some spot they picked for the actual wedding.

@cogdog yup. Can't miss a wedding on the canyon (never been there either) and driving is the only way to haul four kids across the country 😅

We ended up stopping in Fort Morgan because 14.5 hours seemed like enough. Tomorrow we'll head into Estes Park to explore and then drive south to Keystone for a couple of days.

We are now in Kearney, Nebraska. We are shooting for Fort Collins, Colorado which is another 4 hours. We're fueling up and getting the kids settled with a second movie so I can take a nap.

We pulled out of home at 4:45AM AND have made it to iowa city, IA before needing a bathroom break. ETA to our first stop for the night is 11 more hours. This country is huge.

#TodayInTheClassroom It's the last day before my trip next week, so it'll be full of cleaning and prepping for the sub. First year chem is doing some work with indicators of chemical change and then getting some time to just wrap stuff up. Web dev is working with class and id selectors in CSS […]

I might try this to see if I can resave the file and set a password locally. stackoverflow.com/questions/2875430… Super frustrating because I'm not generating the cert myself and it's a hard problem to search. It also seems kind of rare.

I am continuing to struggle to install a VPN security certificate on an older Mac (Intel, Big Sur). It's a .p12 file with no encryption password (confirmed by my IT admin yet the Mac is denying importing the cert into keychain access because it won't accept an empty password. Not sure what to do […]

Anyone have experience with VPN certificates on macOS? My IT director is adamant he did not add a password to the certificate but my machine is asking for a password when I try to import the .p12 file into Keychain Access. I can't figure this out. #askfedi

#TodayInTheClassroom I had a bad night's sleep, so I'm feeling pretty beat this morning. First year chem is taking some notes on balancing equations and strategies for solving. They'll do some practice after that. Web dev is into CSS - we're working with element selectors today. AP Chem is […]

I've been working on this for a long while now. It started as a simple script to generate a believable planet for my role playing game. I'm a science and math nerd though, so I wanted to build it with science. I then realized to do that I needed a star, so I built that. Now I've written it to […]

Hi, I’m David. I’m a middle school math teacher in the south. You’ll usually find me tinkering with some kind of computer problem, playing role-playing games and board games, and catching British comedy panel shows. I'm kind of an odd ball all around and I never quite fit in whatever box anyone […]

@mavnn I think for teachers, I would say: Force copy documents, like templates, by changing the end of the URL to /copy (instead of /edit). When a student clicks the link, a copy is added to their Drive. Keep drive generally organized, but searching is the powerful tool. It checks document […]

👋 Hi friends. I'm Brian, and I'm a high school chemistry and computer science teacher in Michigan. I'm a ChromeOS + Linux user and I write Flask apps to make life easier. I'm interested in open source (mainly Python) productivity libraries and web apps/API development. I also keep honey bees.
