The Tyler Parker shoutout is so good for my street cred. Thanks, man. Still gonna do some Thunder podcasting and some Thunder reading every word you write.

Pretty amazing — and still a little surreal — to officially announce that I’ve joined the Lexington Herald-Leader as sports editor.

Naked Gun is dumb as hell in all the ways you want it to be. Four stars, no notes.

I quite liked but didn’t love Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four and think that often in recent years Marvel has been better at teasers and trailers than movies. And yet, they still lured me in with a 23-second clip of a new Spider-Man costume.

Cued up the new Tyler Childers for the morning commute, and I have to say I expected to learn less about which venereal diseases koala bears carry.

Imagine Zach Snyder's The Rocketeer, where the sun never shines and he's just burning people's faces off with the jetpack.

Also, Clark Kent’s journalistic ethics? Questionable.

I had forgotten until I watched it again that they dubbed Reeve’s voice with a younger actor for teenage Clark.

They say the extended Batman v Superman is better too, but I just can’t. I certainly never thought the problem with that movie was that there wasn’t enough of it.

000

Brett Dawson @brettdawson.bsky.social · 14/07/2025

I’m genuinely optimistic about the new one (though I’m hit-and-miss with James Gunn). I just want a refreshed memory on the old ones to carry me into it.

000

Brett Dawson @brettdawson.bsky.social · 14/07/2025

Superman Returns is… really not that bad? I remember thinking it was way worse. I’m stopping the rewatch at Man of Steel, which is every bit the chore I remember but not the impossible slog that Batman v Superman is for me.

000

Brett Dawson @brettdawson.bsky.social · 14/07/2025

You have to view the original through the lens of its time. It’s pretty corny, but I have real affection for it. Superman II isn’t as good as I remember. It’s a wonder that III — a bad Richard Pryor movie that Superman is in — got made. IV is such a dull disaster that it’s not even fun to laugh at.

320

Brett Dawson @brettdawson.bsky.social · 14/07/2025

Was not so much a Superman guy growing up, but I liked the early movies as a kid. Decided to rewatch everything in advance of seeing the new one, and I’m almost there but boy do you have to power through some slop to do this.

My parents are downsizing to a condo, so I’m on a “sift through stuff and take want you want trip” to their house and, yeah, I want this.

An undeniably beautiful shot from today’s Thunder parade that captures the growth of the city and what it has overcome over the last 30 years to get to this moment — and just how much that title means to OKC. (via the OKC National Memorial IG story; taken — I believe — by Thunder photog Jimmy Do)

I drove in from Guthrie this morning and saw a handful of cars with Thunder flags. Looked like everybody who lives in Mesta Park was walking toward the parade route. Elemental has a line wrapping around to the door.

Shouts to Elemental, the best coffee shop in Oklahoma, for what based on the current crowd in here seems poised to make more money today than any coffee joint in the history of the world.

Have seen more than one person suggest that the Pacers will be the truly memorable team from these NBA Playoffs, and I guess I just wonder, are y'all not capable of remembering two teams? It's only two!

(Kinda wish I had a game story to write.)

You have to ache for the Pacers. Amazing run, and the pain of losing Haliburton and the what-ifs of that. What a postseason. Awesome team.

And what a moment for the city. If you’ve lived here and spent time with people who’ve lived their whole lives here, you know that OKC has long battled a feeling that other people looked down on it, that it was small time. This doesn’t change that overnight, but it’s such a powerful thing.

Thunder were the best team all season. By most any statistical measure they were an elite team. But there was always the youth thing. Remarkable feat for a team set up for so much more down the road.

I’m reading Ultimate Spider-Man on Unlimited (I move too much to accumulate a bunch of hard copies), and the months of delay for the app are driving me crazy. It’s so good.

The Pacers in the fourth quarter just found out what it’s like to play the Pacers in the fourth quarter.

(Also would not have predicted 72-46 Indiana in the even-numbered quarters.)

030

Brett Dawson @brettdawson.bsky.social · 12/06/2025

Things I did not expect in the Finals include the Thunder losing a game in which they made more 3s than the Pacers. Also didn’t expect OKC to be outscored in the paint, by 7 (!) off turnovers and by 31 (!!) off the bench.

Brett Dawson @brettdawson.bsky.social · 12/06/2025

They might be the only team that can wear down the Thunder. I didn’t think that team existed.

Caught up on The Last of Us over the weekend, and my takeaway was that this season was... OK? I never played the games, but it definitely feels like the TV show would have benefited from letting us get to know that other set of characters this season as opposed to waiting two years for that.

Brett Dawson @brettdawson.bsky.social · 23/05/2025

Of all the seasons in all the years, this is the one Apple thinks I want to revisit?

Honestly, this feels so much more comfortable and familiar than the Celtics series. These things happen *to* the Knicks, not *for* the Knicks.

If you go on to win NBA MVP after being ranked 35th in your high school class, you were underrated in hindsight, even if 35 is still pretty high. But this list of guys is wild.

I somehow never got around to Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning. Will I be totally lost if I see Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning this weekend? If it helps, I have seen all the other Mission: Impossible movies and don’t remember anything about the plot of any of them.
