Hey, the Chinese names are all in the wrong order (not the western order, the wrong order). Thought you’d like to know!

bretonstripes @bretonstripes.bsky.social · 27/06/2025

Good news, Croatia has nominated someone for European Gymnastics president. Less good news, Gayibov must have sufficiently groveled to Dear President because he’s been nominated for re-election.

It’s USAG and the Swiss Cup results all over again.

This color combo is one you see in parts of Indonesia, like in this man’s headscarf from about a hundred years ago:

Ohh, can you share the link to scores?

It is possible I interpreted that order of events wrong. But PanamSports was definitely streaming earlier sessions of the event, including the juniors. I got an email announcing it. They’re probably lucky it took this long to get that strike.

@ollyhogben.bsky.social has noted a couple times that Karina Schönmaier didn’t move to one of the big German training centers until she was a senior. Her club in Bremen was so small that it didn’t have a full vault runway. She’d start her vault run outside. Now she’s the European vault champion.

Yeah, doing this right before the final where Helen had a shot at beating Eli’s best finish just felt wrong, considering that Eli also got invited and went to every single post-Paris event where Helen was honored last year.

It is my very favorite format, so it was great fun to hear how much you were enjoying it. I love seeing strategy and cunning in sports where you don’t expect it.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard @ollyhogben.bsky.social as excited and delighted as he is right now during this Euros mixed team final.

Nobody tell the FIG secretary general, he’ll faint at the idea.

I’ll second those and add Karina Schoenmaier’s vaults.

Italy wasn’t really on their game but still ran away with it by 5+ points. Romania had too many mistakes to blame it solely on Sabrina. Errors piled up for GBR. Germany started and finished really strong, little bit wobbly in the middle. France was really solid, I don’t think they counted any falls.

I spotted this issue in the rules the other day and thought “well, what are the odds.” Clearly…

030

bretonstripes @bretonstripes.bsky.social · 25/05/2025

The layout here is absolutely wild. They’re using an L-shaped area and given WAG the larger section. They’ve got 2 floors, 4 beams, 4 bars, and 2 vaults. Meanwhile MAG has 2 horses, 2 pbars, and one of everything else.

030

bretonstripes @bretonstripes.bsky.social · 21/05/2025

So far I’ve only seen Pan Am countries that scheduled during Euros, but you’re right, that feels like something Russia would have done. I wonder if they were really expecting the ban to be lifted.

bretonstripes @bretonstripes.bsky.social · 21/05/2025

I see we’re going to find out how many non-European countries scheduled their national championships during Euros.

Yeah, I don’t know very much about the program. I actually wasn’t sure till just now that it wasn’t just an Army thing. But hopefully it’s something the Air Force coaches have discussed with him.

You should always have a crowd of adoring littles mob you have you've done well on floor at a meet in your home gym.

I’d buy that it’s all of the above.

010

bretonstripes @bretonstripes.bsky.social · 18/04/2025

We don’t know what the format will be. But I doubt they would do more than pairs because you can’t guarantee enough countries would have enough MAGs and WAGs there (and they’re not likely to have quotas specifically for this event). This is the format EYOF has used for a while, by the way.

When I was digging up information on Doha, I saw that the scoring system in the directives was listed as “Bornan or SmartScoring or any.” I think the last one is @kensleybehel.com getting USAG to write down 2-vault scores on a piece of paper so she could take a picture and share it with people.

bretonstripes @bretonstripes.bsky.social · 15/04/2025

And you’re missing some quality entertainment if you don’t get to the rhythmic side of it.

031

bretonstripes @bretonstripes.bsky.social · 11/04/2025

I think that’s likely, yeah. The sticking point is that the directives don’t really spell out the format of the event itself, aside from how qualifying to the event will work. I’ve been assuming it’ll be like the EYOF mixed event because it’s also EG organizing.

110

bretonstripes @bretonstripes.bsky.social · 10/04/2025

The EG website describes the Euros mixed pairs event as having a cross-battle format. This doesn’t appear in the event directives or on the Turnfest website. So either it’s going to be a seeded, bracketed elimination tournament (which I’m cool with) or the EG website person is confused.

140

bretonstripes @bretonstripes.bsky.social · 09/04/2025

I’m guessing the Euros mixed pairs event this year will be a test for the format.

Did Skinner do or say anything in 2012 that was problematic? Because I saw someone say they’ve hated her since 2012 and it struck me as odd to have that kind of loathing for a 15-year-old.
