"Young Pebble" From my recent "Rocky Mountain Summer" release. An unexpected gorgeous waterfall at the end of a spur trail on a backcountry hike in grizzly country. Not pictured: the most thimble berries I've ever seen. Nothing like a little serendipity!

"I'm Not Sure How" One of my favorite things about backpacking is that once you've started, you can't really give up. On this one, I weathered a storm and witnessed a rainbow forming atop the trees at the bottom of the valley. It was a beautiful moment I am very grateful to have witnessed.

"Stonework" This one was taken at the terminus of a grueling out-and-back day hike up into the mountains in the pouring rain. I didn't get any nice photos of the mountains that day, but the colorful, wet ground was looking great! It's worth going out into any conditions with an open mind.

"Stripped Down" I am glad to announce new work! I released 2 12-image "chapters". This one is from brentgoesoutsi.de/2025-rocky-m... I was a surprised to see so many dead trees in the rocky mountains. Perhaps I shouldn't be anymore, but there is always beautiful light to be found & stories to tell

"How to Explain" I feel lucky to have made this shot; I saw this light out of the corner of my while walking through a quiet forest. I took a couple of focus stacks, and the light was gone before I knew it. I am no stranger to quickly fleeting light, but I was not expecting it midday in a forest!

I sign on here once a week or so to post, but I've been using all social media less lately. I suppose it's just not as alluring to me as it used to be. Even though there is still a ton of interesting content, drinking from a fire hose for years gets exhausting, regardless of the platform.

This is a fantastic ultrawide composition! I really enjoy the way the river lines up with the path, and how the curve of the path fits in the bottom of the frame just right. The light on the mountains and the sky ain't hurtin' neither. #recommendation

Right! I think it also heightens your ability to be (more) objective about which photos are high quality and worthy of processing, publishing, and sharing. That's what I tell myself to keep the nightmares away, anyway.

#stream_of_consciousness 2025-03-04 I took this photo in White Sands National *Monument* in 2017 (it became a park in 2019). I never really did anything with it but now I think it's a perfect candidate for this project. I still enjoy it after 8 years, which I can't say about all of my old work!

If it makes you feel better, northern Illinois' nature is already overrun by people that don't care about nature. I've seen some gorgeous places there full of trash and people disrespecting the natural environment.

#stream_of_consciousness 2025-02-18 Hat tip to my buddy Kevin Sink who alerted me that nature photography's next hot spot, northern Illinois, had a beautiful coat of hoar frost. Oh, and I'm getting ready to release a new gallery soon. Sign up for my newsletter to see it.
