fanfiction.lol just hit 500 works! woo! :prami:
Screenshot of the fanfiction.lol homepage. A purple header with the edge of a rounded search box sits above a pastel rainbow stripe, and below it a yellow notice, cropped on the left, warns that features may break, data may be accidentally deleted, and people should not store important content there. The heading reads “fanfiction.lol: a small, independent archive of fanworks and original works,” followed by the site stats “267 fandoms | 362 users | 500 works” and the tagline “meant to be fun! spread joy, be excellent to each other, and express yourself creatively!”

I'm having so much fun messing around with this little guy!

tried making some ascii art :)
ASCII art of a Retroid Pocket handheld game console. The screen in the centre reads “retroid-server” and lists two services: SSH on port 8022 and HTTP on port 8080. Around it are the shoulder buttons L1, L2, R1, and R2, a USB-C port along the top, a d-pad and Select/Start on the left, the A, B, X, and Y buttons and a Home button on the right, and a 3.5mm jack and microSD slot along the bottom. The artist’s initials, “bkb”, sit in the bottom right corner.

Been trying to make a theme for Geany (my Markdown editor of choice for older hardware) based off of Moonflower.
Screenshot of the Geany text editor with a dark theme, showing a Markdown file called theme-kitchen-sink.md. Each heading level has its own colour and weight: the H1 “The Long Winter” is red, H2 “Chapter One” orange, H3 “Scene: the cabin” green, H4 “Beat: a knock at the door” blue, and H5 “Note: unreliable narrator” purple. Below them are Setext-style H1 and H2 headings with red and orange underlines. A section called “Emphasis and Inline Styles” shows italic, bold, bold italic and struck-through text, followed by a blockquote mixing bold, italic, inline code and a blue link. A task list at the bottom has two checked items, “Set up writerdeck” and “Install themes”, and two unchecked ones, “Actually write the novel” and “Procrastinate”, the last of which is struck through.

A figure skater in a dark outfit with sheer sleeves performs a spin with one leg stretched straight up behind them and their head tipped back, ice spraying around them. Large pale-blue letters over the rink boards read “Happy Birthday.” A name beneath is crossed out in red and replaced with “Melo!” in red handwriting, followed by a small heart. A US Figure Skating logo sits at the bottom.

It's so frustrating how people just forget this.
MS Paint-style diagram of a ricochet. A stick figure labeled “You” fires a red line labeled “Bodyshaming” at a second stick figure labeled “Guy u don’t like but will never care.” The line bounces off him and hits a third stick figure at the bottom left, labeled “Person you care about with the same trait who now knows you think they’re ugly.” Red lines radiate from the point of impact on that figure’s chest.

For the first time since I started my blog, brennan.day has gotten a redesign! Goodbye gruvbox, hello moonflower! 🌻 Apt for the spooky season?
Screenshot of the newly designed brennan.day homepage in dark mode with a pink/rose accent colour. Header reads "brennan.day" with nav links for Now, About, Pages, Guestbook, Search, and RSS. Below, a "Brennan's Weblog" section shows a black-and-white maneki-neko cat illustration, an intro paragraph about the site, a pink "Start Here!" button, and a cursive signature reading "Brennan Kenneth Brown." A teal-bordered banner announces a new Collections feature for browsing essays by theme. The Recent Posts section lists post #294, "Kindness as First-class Citizen in Programming," by Brennan Kenneth Brown, dated September 27, 2026, tagged Community, with an excerpt about kindness as a design constraint in tech culture. A sidebar shows Brennan's bio with photo and a Support section.Brand board for brennan.day showing two colour palettes and three typefaces. The "Sunflower" light-mode palette lists neutrals White, Cultured Pearl, Gallery, Cod Gray, Tundora, and Alto, plus accents Cardinal (red), Rock Spray (orange), Chelsea Gem (olive/gold), Jewel (green), Metallic Seaweed (teal), New Car (blue), and Electric Violet (purple), each with hex codes. The "Moonflower" dark-mode palette lists neutrals Cod Gray, Eerie Black, Eerie Black+, Concrete, Nobel, and Tundora, plus accents Shimmering Blush (pink), Porsche (orange), Gold, Emerald (green), Cyan, Malibu (light blue), and Mauve (purple), each with hex codes.

Below, three typefaces show sample uppercase, lowercase, and numeral glyphs: Young Serif for headings and titles, Newsreader (with italic) for body text, and Public Sans (with bold) for navigation, UI, and metadata. All served by Bunny Fonts.Same brennan.day homepage layout as the other screenshot, but in old design of sage-green/gray accent color instead of pink, the "Start Here!" button and other accents are muted green-gray. The same post, "Kindness as First-class Citizen in Programming," appears without a post number or category label but instead a list of hashtags is shown (#personal essay, #Social Commentary, #kindness, #empathy, #ruby, #programming, #open source, #IndieWeb, #Digital Culture, #activism, #web development), followed by the excerpt.

Been working on my own custom syntax theme, specifically for when I'm writing my blog posts in Markdown in my IDE that prioritizes both readability and joy. Trying to figure out a name. 🤔
Code editor showing a Markdown file with sections titled "Error-Checking," "Meta Descriptions," and "Filters." The Meta Descriptions section explains that descriptions should be between 70 and 160 characters, with part of the paragraph struck through. The Filters section shows a Nunjucks code block setting a pageDescription variable that falls back to a site description and truncates it to 155 characters, then uses it in meta description and Open Graph tags. Below that, a bulleted list notes pages with descriptions that were too short, linking to /now/, /search/, /slash-pages/, and /guestbook/ on brennan.day. A final Markdown code block shows a before-and-after example of a page description, expanded to mention "recent updates."

Screenshot of a chat support conversation styled with an Apple logo at the top and a red status dot reading 'You are disconnected.' Below the header is a dark terminal-style log panel showing MacBook Air recovery/boot messages, including entries about NVRAM state, RTC panic info, clearing non-volatile RAM variables (AppleFirmwareFailureReason, StartupMuteReason, boot-failure-reason, etc.), an internal volume status showing an encrypted APFS volume as 'Intact, but no users' on disk0, and MacRecoveryAssistant log lines referencing a locked device, a volume named 'Macintosh HD', and machine internet connection checks. Below the log image is an attached text file labeled 'Installer Log 23-Sep-2026-2.txt' with a document icon. Under it, a blue chat bubble from the user reads 'this is from this log I saved from the MacBook while it was still in recovery utilities.' Below that are three gray support-agent chat bubbles: one saying 'Thank you for the image. I am downloading the images.', another saying 'Yes, you were right. As per the image it looks like it was already scheduled. So this can be done due to the MDM profile. Let me get it escalated to our dedicated Business support team over call to check and help you further.', and a final one asking 'Can you please help me with your phone number and time zone?'

Hi, The Register! www.theregister.com/software/2026/0…
Screenshot of a The Register article. Below the site's navigation bar, body text reads: 'We have to say that that goal isn't going quite so swimmingly. Although it is winning supporters and boosters, lots of them, it is also attracting some hostility in the FOSS world. Brennan Kenneth Brown set out the accusation in a post titled Normalized Fascism in Open Source: $12 Million Given to DHH. Blogger Jürgen "tante" Geuter is blunt: "Omarchy should not matter. But sadly it does. As a power grab."'

I've had relatively no bot traffic for my site's entire existence up until two weeks ago. No idea why.
Stacked bar chart titled 'Banned Bots by Country' showing daily bot-ban hits from August 1–31, 2026, broken down by 27 countries. Totals stay low (under 50) through mid-August, spike sharply to ~215 hits on August 15 and ~415 on August 20 (both almost entirely from the United States), then rise steadily from August 22 onward, peaking around 300–360 hits per day in the final week with contributions spread across many more countries, led by a combination of countries.

Update on my Netlify: My sites continue to be online and new updates are deploying despite the overage continuing to increase. I have no idea why and I am too scared to ask.

Well, that kinda puts a wrench in my plans for the rest of Blaugust 🤔
Netlify email notification titled 'You've reached 100% usage,' stating that bandwidth on the Berry House account has reached 100% of the current limit for August 2026. The email warns that if usage exceeds the limit before month's end, all projects will be suspended until the first day of the next month, and offers an option to upgrade to the Starter plan for additional bandwidth. A teal 'Check usage details' button appears below the message, followed by a note that usage resets at the end of the month, with a link to the pricing page for Free plan limits.

Below the text is an image showing a network graphic with an "X" logo at the centre connected to platform icons labelled Meta and TikTok. Hand-drawn scatter chart titled with y-axis 'Number of blog posts' and x-axis 'Number of posts about elaborate blog setups,' showing a steep downward curve. High on the y-axis with few setup posts: 'WordPress setup from 2004,' 'old-ass Blogger.com site,' 'weird dude who writes raw HTML,' 'cool MIT professor,' and 'that guy who never stopped using Tumblr', labelled the 'prolific peak of tools-don't-matter.' Along the flattened curve toward the x-axis: 'corporate blog with unnecessary continuous integration,' 'Welcome to nginx!,' 'Gatsby fan,' 'org mode fan,' 'my mobile git workflow guy,' and a cluster of 'authors of custom static site generators' and '"moved from Jekyll to Hugo" people', labelled the 'static gen basin.' A single outlier point floats high above the x-axis, disconnected from the curve, labeled 'Superhuman from that big FOSS project.' Signed rakhim.org.

Navigation shows category filter buttons: all, Showcase, Collaborators, Classifieds, Singles, Pen Pals, Wanted, Events, Feedback Wanted, and Recommendations. Below, eight colour-coded posts follow in a grid, each with a timestamp and ascii-style reaction tags:

- Orange Wanted post, "Wanted: a working 56k modem for a nostalgia project," for a dial-up experience booth at a tech history exhibit.
- Blue Collaborators post, "Looking for a co-host for a small-web podcast," seeking a co-host for a biweekly show about personal sites and webrings.
- Green Feedback Wanted post, "Roast my new about page, please," from Moss Garden, asking for blunt tone feedback.
- Green Classifieds post, "Can anyone help me debug a Caddy config for a subdomain wildcard?"

Took me all day, but I'm finally happy with the typography for my notes in Bear! :prami:
Screenshot of a Bear notes app window. The left sidebar lists notebooks (Notes, Untagged, Todo, Today, Locked, Pinned, Archive, Trash) and tags (evergreen, inbox, education, goals, ideas, jottings, journal, letters, poetry, prompts, reference, shopping, tasks, web, writing), with "jottings" currently selected. The middle column shows a list of notes within jottings, including "computer appreciation draft," "Knitting," "Pocket Games," "TODO June 24th," "Junk Bin," "June 20th, 2026," and "Building the Good Web." The main pane displays the open note "computer appreciation draft," titled "Portrait of a Core Duo," a lyric essay about semiconductor manufacturing. Visible text describes silicon purification and crystal growth (with a phrase highlighted in yellow), followed by a "Code Example:" section containing a Java code block defining a class called Example with a stream-filter method, and a final paragraph about photolithography and etching, with a phrase highlighted in blue. The editor toolbar at the bottom shows a word count of 426 words.
