Still alive, just haven’t been interested in writing beyond scribbling a few notes at work. Mostly working and playing Final Fantasy XIV.

Thanks to Final Fantasy XIV, I learned the word “thalassocracy”.

The talent on display in Orphan Black is nothing short of phenominal. I’m glad I watched it.

It’s been some years since I last watched Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. To this day, it is a film that brings me great joy. (most Trek films do, but that‘s beside the point)

Recent purchases. One was a recommendation, the other four are me wandering around until something makes me go, “ah, interesting.”

A stack of five books:

The Grip of it, by Jac Jemc
Clear, by Carys Davies
Fifty Beasts to Break Your Heart, by Gennarose Nethercott
Local Heavens, by K. M. Fajardo

chatgpt and ai is ruining everything I love and I don’t know how to handle it. Students exclusively using chatgpt and other llms for assignments is why I quit working in education after struggling for YEARS to get my foot in the door.

I’m so glad I tricked—I mean, convinced my friend to watch Star Trek: The Next Generation. We just finished “All Good Things.” It was a lot of fun watching that with someone who’d never seen it before.

Reddit is being extra pushy about downloading the app again. All I want to do is read some No Man’s Sky posts, I don’t care about your shitty app ESPECIALLY if your invasive pop-up doen’t have an option to close it.

I couldn’t make it through TekWar. It was… not good. It felt like it was written by someone who likes the idea of writing but never took the time to study any aspect beyond the most basic principles.

Just finished The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut. Equal parts absurd and sad, would recommend.

Brennan @brennan-cupp.bsky.social · 01/05/2026

I was cleaning my bookshelf and found some books I forgot I had. I’ve been wanting to read TekWar for a while. So, I decided to see how many more books there were in the series… …9 There are 9 TekWar books. Much as I adore William Shatner, I don’t think I have the eneegy for 9 books…

"Brief Interviews With Hideous Men" is essentially the "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier" of DFW's published works. It's so tonally weird compared to everything else, and I know I'm not the only one who feels that way.

000

Brennan @brennan-cupp.bsky.social · 21/03/2026

I'm thinking about physically making books. Not zines or chapbooks, like literal hardcover books. Sounds like it'd be fun. It'll take time to practice and get everything the way I want it, so don't expect any major updates on this for a while.

I beat Blade Chimera tonight. It was pretty awesome. A bit shorter than I expected, but that’s okay. It’s a sharp, super fun game. Check it out.

I don’t like going to bed when there’s still daylight outside. But this is what capitalism demands of me. I am but a human-shaped cog in the grand machine that grinds dreams into dust and told I should be thankful for the opportunity. Anyway, AI is garbage, fuck ICE, trans rights are human rights.

Swag from the big ol antique shop in town. Managed to snag a few Star Trek comics from the series I’m collecting. An overall good day.

Three rows of stuff.

Row 1: Book Two of Robin 3000, the 10th anniversary issue of some magazine called DWB, an RPG book for Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

Row 2: The DC Star Trek run, issues 72, 74, and 44, and some comic called Trek Teens which appears ro be an Archie parody set in the Star Trek universe.

Row 3: Greedo action figure, in box, from the 90s.

Finished Quantum Leap with my friend tonight. Season 5 was not great. It had some (not a lot, some) good moments, but there were too many non-episodes with no real stakes (I think you know the ones I’m talking about). I liked the finale. Glad I was able to watch it again.

It is done. I have unlocked all achievements on Xenoblade X. Some of those holofigures were a real pain in the ass to get.

Spent my evening watching Star Trek II. Been a while since I last watched it all the way through. Here’s hoping I don’t freeze to death over the weekend.

The poster for Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. What’s Spock pointing at? Why does the Enterprise look a little goofed? Why is it shooting Space Station Regula 1? I have pondered these, and many other questions, for decades…
