Oh ffs, Mastodon is turning the search term into a link. This is why we need Markdown syntax in Mastodon, for code snippets! See the image for the term you search, it's in the alt text also.

An example. You want to add the hashtag #climate to a list. Search "@tag-climate". This will pull up the user relay.fedi.buzz/tag/climate. Follow them, and add them to a list. Done! If you don't want the hashtag's posts in your home feed, make the […] [Original post on fosstodon.org]

@MonaApp / @jonny_kuang when I view certain posts on the official Mastodon app I see more replies than with both Mona 6 and 7. Attached is an example post viewed in Mona 6 and Mastodon. Any ideas?

This post is because I am trying to buy a paperback copy of a book and I am once again presented with a seller list like this. Zero EU options besides Amazon. I do not want to give my money to Amazon.

I don’t want to get y’all too worked up but quote posting just got ‘closed as completed’ on GitHub. So, coming soon I guess! Very satisfying to see a feature completed that was first requested in 2016 😄 #mastodev

@Gina can we please get rid of the custom CSS that Fosstodon uses to add underlines to everything? I had assumed that was default Mastodon UI but it's not. It's so heavy on the eyes! See the pics for an example of the same post on Fosstodon and Mastodon.social.

"establish at the very least an obligation for companies to retain data sufficient to ensure that any user can be clearly identified (e.g. IP address and port number)" Well I guess anonymous VPN's wouldn't be allowed under that. @mullvadnet , thoughts on this one?!

"Establishing a research group to assess the technical feasibility of built-in lawful access obligations" We already know the technological feasibility. What a waste of time and money!
A screenshot of the following text: Establishing a research group to assess the technical feasibility of built-in lawful access
obligations (including for accessing encrypted data) for digital devices, while maintaining
and without compromising the security of devices and the privacy of information for all users
as well as without weakening or undermining the security of communications.

"develop binding industry standards for devices brought to market in the EU, to integrate lawful access" As anyone with the most basic knowledge of encryption knows, there's no such thing as a secure backdoor. Anyone suggesting such a thing is either willfully ignorant or has nefarious intentions.
A screenshot of the following text: Conducting a comprehensive mapping of the current legislation in Member States to detail
the legal responsibilities of digital hardware and software manufacturers to comply with data
requests from law enforcement. It would also take into account specific scenarios and
requirements that compel companies to access devices, in compliance also with CJEU case-
law and case law of the European Court of Human Rights. The goal should be to develop an
EU-level handbook on that basis, and depending on the aforementioned mapping, to promote
the approximation of legislation within this area, and to develop binding industry standards
for devices brought to market in the EU, to integrate lawful access.

This is the functionality needed to give Mastodon lists Bluesky-feed-like functionality. It's all realistic and achievable IMHO. github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues… #mastodev #mastodon

@markhburton not what I meant, I mean native support for creating threads. Multiple 3rd-party apps have the feature but it'd be good to have it in mainline.

Hi @mozilla, can you please explain why you think it's okay to add a setting like this and turn it on by default? Especially when the user has already set their Browser Privacy setting to 'strict'? #privacy #firefox #advertising

Allow web sites to perform privacy-preserving ad measurement.
This helps sites understand how their ads perform without collecting data about you."
