You already got an answer from someone else, but here’s a list I keep of the conditions for a company to be publicly owned and run. In screenshot because it’s too long otherwise. Actual text is in the alt text.
Companies should be publicly owned and run if they meet one or more of the following conditions:
The function/system/service:
is required for the universal human rights of citizens to be met, rights which would not be adequately met by the market.
is a natural monopoly (an industry in which multi-firm production is more costly than production by a monopoly, and/or which would otherwise require strong regulation to limit a company's potential market power, facilitate competition, promote investment or system expansion, or stabilise markets.)
is in the public interest for reasons of safety
is of great benefit to society, but will not succeed through market forces alone (e.g. scientific research, or education)
often needs the ability to override private property rights in the national interest

“However, a compelling alternative has emerged. For instance, a budget of approximately €2,999 could comfortably secure a new 2026 Brinckers Buddy, a sensible and reliable option.” There, I fixed it. Picked the Brinckers only because it’s the best longtail in my shop right now 😛

I was about to get offended on behalf of iced buns, but I should have realised, as an Australian, that the original British version of food is often bland. Behold, the ‘finger bun’; a moist, lightly sweet bun with fruit, coconut icing, and a good slathering of butter. Delicious.

Case in point, I was trying to find some news on the "climate coalition of the willing". DDG (and Google) do fine, your sites for some reason pull up zero results. @qwant.bsky.social , it looks like I can't even switch off of country-specific results?

Oh no. Not again. 3 more direct replies in thread from OP! Okay I'm going to stop here, because it just continues like this.

Oh. I guess that was the last post in the thread? After all, it's just replies from other people. If the thread continued, OP's post would be shown here, directly below her last post, right? Right? Anakinpadmememe.jpeg. Let's scroll down and see if we can find anything.

Lo! The thread continues! Once again, it looks like this is the end of the thread. There's nothing to indicate there are more posts. But I know better, now. I shall click the last post.

So I click the "read 4 more replies". Here's where it really goes to shit. All that happens is I'm now viewing the last post from the first 5 posts that already displayed previously, with comments from others below. There's no indication that OP's thread continues.

It starts out okay if you're viewing the top-level post. The original post plus 4 replies are displayed, with "Read 4 more replies" telling me the thread continues. It's not correct, because there are 30+ replies from the author along with all the comments, but at least I know the thread continues.

Same, except for growing up in Australia. Had the same fantasies of dark European forests. The blue spots are my desired holiday destinations! I live surrounded by red 😭

Different but also similar story on previous holidays around German and Belgian forests. They’re almost all ‘managed’ forests, meaning people can go in and cut down trees. This is supposedly humans working with nature but it just means it’s degraded habitat.

I just got back from holidaying in the Pyrenees. Fantastic hiking, lovely! But it made me very sad that in all but some parks on the Spanish side, the entire range is overgrazed by livestock. You go hiking at 1800m and there’s sheep, cows, and grassland where there should be woodland.

Only a 0.3% swing as of last update on the Guardian vote tracker, I don’t think you can say much about that. www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...

Steve is maybe looking for public transport options but I do love the cycle from DH through the Haagse forest and then into the dunes.

Couldn't help myself.
The 'always has been' meme, for turbines. Almost all power generation is just another way of spinning a turbine to turn kinetic energy into electric energy!
