Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 10/10/2026Only down the hill from me, genuinely excited by this. Decky does some great stuff. 010
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 08/10/2026I thought the same, but then was told off in Brussels for taking the glass out of the stand. Not the done thing, apparently. 140
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Surprised the air travel for personal reasons is so low. 000
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 04/10/2026I get a laugh out of it, and it generates memes like this. 0122
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 27/09/2026We'd all have a chance though? We'd need Serena to double fault, obviously, we're not actually going to score a point ourselves (which is presumably what the poll meant). Be distracting, do a dance, wear a silly hat, tell her a joke. I reckon some of us could do it! 020
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 15/09/2026What's the story with Shamrock Rovers, the transfers of both Noonans, and the FAI/FIFA investigations? Maybe links in with the figures from last week of what Shamrock Rovers (and Derry City) spent on agent fees last year. 000
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Can't believe this is real. I saw this earlier and just presumed it was you. 😂 000
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Leaving aside my feelings on their diacetyl-riddled brews, they are sold in that wee British ale section in the Brit supermarkets in the North already. Don't know who buys them, but they must sell. Could imagine C&C sending them south, if even just for the English who've moved over. 210
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Would that not be a common middle class aspiration? Certainly would be in Ireland. Having a second home on the continent wouldn't be considered unusual for the middle class. 001
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 22/08/2026Love the detail on this. No Madrid in Iberia, Ireland only had Waterford (I presume), central Europe has more detail (and Lübeck, but not Hamburg). Also enjoy how far south Albania goes. 000
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 20/08/2026US only. I've seen the EU one somewhere and it's basically the opposite, which is nice. 141
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 18/08/2026Progress all round. The Dutch are doing something great. 210
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 15/08/2026static.klipy.comAwkward ReactionALT: Awkward Reaction 010
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 15/08/2026Aye, I don't believe that. The Dutch are the masters of cheap, abundant, but tasteless food (e.g. tomatoes). 020
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 12/08/2026Greece is surprising. TAP have upped their US routes, so maybe understandable. 000
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 31/07/2026I just embrace the lack of craft beer in Andalucía and go all in for the sherry. 110
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 23/07/2026Great spot. The red is delicious. Poured directly from the tanks, lovely. 020
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 18/07/2026static.klipy.comDerry Girls Erin: Oh, Boke!ALT: Derry Girls Erin: Oh, Boke! 000
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 18/07/2026The French just couldn't care less. England could break some records if they want to. 010
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 14/07/2026Would recommend Casa Manteca in Cádiz (the chicarrones are incredible). 110
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 06/07/2026And it was a few days after Infantino, Ronaldo and the Saudis jointly visited the White House. I, naïvely, didn't connect them at the time. 000
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 23/06/2026Very interesting. Is the UK one on the right of the photo? Sainsbury's in Derry sell it now and again, the right hand bottle, that is. Wonder has it always been brewed in Britain? 100
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 23/06/2026I get why weißbier works. Fruited sours for me. Púca from White Hag is a great example, and the low ABV helps. 020
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 19/06/2026So that's two new bars Lidl have opened this week! 010
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 06/06/2026I know what you mean, same with Boundary, but they are well made. I do tend to buy their non-hazy stuff mostly. 110
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 06/06/2026Can't say either are great, but they come as a welcome relief from the mainstream Polish lagers after a couple of days. 010
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 02/06/2026Agree with this. I worked there the odd time under the previous owners, same story. Always felt it was aimed at a more 'show-off' crowd, plus tourists. I'd guess it makes its profits in the evening, but a waste of a nice building in a great location. 010
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 02/06/2026It's not great, IMO. It's a bit too sweet and light in body, thin really. Used to be very cheap when I was a student. That and Castlemaine, 16 for tenner maybe? I still splashed out and got the Smithwicks; six cans for £3.99. 000
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 29/05/2026The colours aren't right, but I still feel it's useful, as this isn't an artistic photograph, it's purely functional. I don't think it'll ever be able to improve artistic photos like the one you posted. 010
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 29/05/2026The UK military took this photo of Derry in 1940, with the colourised one added. I can see the top half of the photo from my house. I feel that the colourised one is of more use to me in understanding the changes that have occurred in the last 86 years than the black and white one. 100
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 29/05/2026Not sure where I stand on it. The colourisation is rarely (ever?) great, but on the other hand, it does look more like what I'd see today with my own eyes. Absolutely take the point about referencing the sources. I'll give you an example. 200
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 19/05/2026Been following this crowd for a few years, love their stories. Need to get my act together and actually go. 010
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 07/05/2026I didn't know there were that many Spanish speakers in Brazil. Which led me to find out that there over 3m German speakers there too, speaking mostly Hunsrückisch. 000
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 06/05/2026Is it? It seems very expensive. By comparison, Ryanair's average fare is €44. 000
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 28/04/2026Deer's Head. They brew their own stuff too. 010
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 12/04/2026We can have qualified majority voting for everything, if we choose. It would make some states nervous, Ireland included, but not impossible to get into place. 260
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 11/04/2026I was initially surprised that we in Ireland are so high. Then remembered, spuds. 000
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 11/04/2026They can, but they don't have to. Often it's cheaper to buy from the state though. Another advantage is that Systembolaget has a massive range, and must supply any product in any store, if requested. Means small breweries essentially get nationwide distribution for free. 110
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 11/04/2026I think it's because it's because of the state monopoly on alcohol, which gives them decent buying power. 100
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 04/04/202640cl of Baghaven wild ale for under €4 in Hops Beer Bar in Budapest in November. Would also highlight Hany Bany in Prague last week. Happy hour, if it counts, litre of Pilsner Urquell for 45CZK/€1.83. 140
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 03/04/2026Is it a proper bank holiday though? In NI, civil servants get Monday/Tuesday, but work today. I'd add, most journalists seem to get a couple of weeks around Christmas, so swings and roundabouts. 000
Brendan Carroll @brendancarroll.bsky.social · 30/03/2026If anything, it reminds us that the northern Atlantic isn't as wide as we may imagine. E.g. a Dublin-Kos flight is about the same distance as Dublin-St. John's. 110
