The decision to approve the Line 5 tunnel permit is inexcusable. EGLE declared that private need outweighed public interest. Their words, not mine. We don't need to keep oil profitable. We need hospitals. We need teachers. We need clean drinking water. But those needs were outweighed.

The Oden Fish Hatchery is one great example of some of the work the State of Michigan does to proactively enrich and protect our natural resources. I think it's important to physically connect with some of the less obvious ways that our government can be an instrument for good.

Tone-deaf developers are trying to convince us that we should welcome these data center projects with open arms because they'll bring a surge in construction jobs. People already can't afford new homes around here. Snatching up all of the construction capacity in the area sure as hell won't help.

A packed crowd in Charlevoix to hear experts detail the strategies developers are using to insert large-scale data centers where residents don't want them. If the best argument they have is a temporary influx of out-of-town construction workers, it's clear that community consent isn't a priority.
