i made an infographic on building a starter emergency kit bc depending on this government in an emergency feels like a death sentence 😇 hooray 💕

a cartoon infographic on building an emergency kit, with drawings of each item on a grid. from top to bottom, left to right:
-1 gallon of water per person per day (recommended 3 day supply at least)
-first aid kit
-extra diapers and formula for infants in home
-hygiene supplies (pads, tp, etc.)
-extra meds (prescription, pepto, etc.)
-non perishable food
-handcrank or solar-powered radio
-warm clothes, socks, blankets
-surgical or dust masks
-flashlight and extra batteries
-extra pet food

cartoon girl with horns at the bottom says,”start small and build over time!”

next slide, labeled EXTRAS:

-cash
-solar-powered chargers
-copies of important documents, bonus if put in fireproof cases!
-toys and games
-spare candles

FAQ

Q: WHOA! THIS IS A LOT OF STUFF!
WHAT IF CAN'T AFFORD ALL THIS?
DO NOT GO OUT AND BUY EVERYTHING AT ONCE!!! START SLOW, SEE WHAT YOU HAVE EXTRA OF. ADD A GALLON OF WATER ON YOUR NEXT GROCERY RUN, THRIFT SOME SPARE BLANKETS, MAKE AN ONLINE LIST YOU BUY FROM EVERY FEW MONTHS.
Q: WHERE DO I PUT ALL OF THIS?
IN A STURDY BOX OR BACKPACK STORED IN AN EASILY ACCESSIBLE SAFE PLACE LIKE A CLOSET OR BASEMENT.
IT'S ALSO NEVER A BAD IDEA TO HAVE A SMALLER "GO BAG" IN YOUR CAR.
Q: WHY IS HAVING AN EMERGENCY KIT EVEN NECESSARY?
THE MORE SELF RELIANT YOU CAN BE IN AN EMERGENCY, THE BETTER! IT CAN BE HELPFUL TO QUICKLY HAVE EXTRA SUPPLIES IN A SCENARIO LIKE A FIRE OR FLOOD BUT EVEN WITH UNEXPECTED JOB LOSS OR RECESSION. THIS IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT FOR POC, LGBTQ+, AND MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES AS THEY TEND TO BE THE MOST VULNERABLE IN THESE SCENARIOS.
USE YOUR COMMUNITY, MAKE PLANS WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY, REACH OUT TO YOUR ELDERLY AND DISABLED NEIGHBORS! YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
