During #WomensHistoryMonth, we recognize Anna Hunt Marsh (c. 1769 – 1834), the first woman to establish a mental health hospital. The Retreat was founded through a $10K bequest, as attested in her will, for the humane treatment of people with mental health challenges - her legacy continues today.
