Dude so fire. A colleague pointed me to your posts after I shared a portfolio site redesign I'm working on with gameboy/cartridge themes. www.branon.dev I'd be so curious to hear more how you built these sick cartridge graphics!

Appreciate it man! If you or anyone you know want to hack on it together, it’s open source and I’d love to steer it to a good place with as many voices as possible. 🫶🏽

Happy Friday from a design engineer on parental leave. Here’s a gameboy I made from just a bunch of shapes in figgy circa 2020. That is all.

I wrote an artice on this exact thing - to me it comes down to how LLMs work vs. neurons. “Real” thinking requires updating connections between concepts in real time, after every “experience”. LLMs are frozen in time, and “learn” during training between versions. www.thesis.social/article/cmok...

Last response: I’ve had to fumble with this philosophical question while building thesis.social. If through simple conversations you can click 1 button and publish an AI-generated cited research paper on the topic, are you REALLY the author? I’m choosing to say “absolutely” to posit human agency

In other words - if we are liable for AI’s faults in what we build, we should also own AI-assisted victories. We are either responsible for outcomes (good with the bad) or we’re just completely yielding our power altogether.

Also - as engineers and designers we already work this way assuming responsibility for what we ship. LLM hallucinations in code or design artifacts fall on our shoulders as arbiters of experiences we build. We answer to all that in our design crit and PRs. This model feels human-centered to me!

I agree with this Dan. To me there’s a choice to be made here as a society moving forward with AI. I think our collective opinion on this question informs the future we envision for an AI-driven society: are humans still in control of society or are we yielding our agency completely?

Becoming a dad changed the way I view the AI revolution. What used to feel purely exciting as a design engineer is now kinda scary as a father. Will “AI kids” be the “iPad Kids” of our generation? Here’s more on the topic via my recent side project, thesis.social www.thesis.social/article/cmob...
