I've been gaming since I could walk, and for most of that time, I've been told video games will rot your brain. I'd like to push back against that stigma, by sharing all the words I've learned from games over the years. brainrot.home.blog

For those of you who don't have back pain, commercials for Gillette razors used to be a lot more musical. I'm writing this at the end of a pretty harsh week. Celebrity deaths usually don't hit me too hard, but we lost a genuinely good person in Dolly Parton, a fantastically entertaining actor in Tim Curry, and Peter Cullen, who was essentially the voice of my childhood, with how many cartoon characters he brought to life. Losing the three of them in as many days has hit a lot of people pretty hard, myself included.

Nothing’s perfect
If you've been following US politics lately, your feed has probably been filled with headlines about how Democratic Socialists have been enacting something of a coup in the Democratic party. Multiple establishment candidates have been passed over in favor of newer, younger, more progressive candidates in the primaries--that is, candidates who might actually try to give voters what they want, instead of shrugging their shoulders as Republicans steamroll over everything, and maybe writing a strongly-worded letter of condemnation if you donate $50.

I have a few days off from work coming up, and I'm not wholly sure how the place is going to function in my absence. I also don't think I care. I put in for this PTO before various circumstances led up to be operating with literally half the staff we're supposed to have. At the time I put in the request, it was largely just because I didn't want to deal with people and political talk for a few days around voting in the primaries (I put in for time off in early November for a similar reason).

Trench warfare
So, my job has been severely understaffed for about two months now. This is ostensibly because we had a system migration about two weeks ago, and they didn't want to train someone in on the old system, only to have to turn around and immediately retrain them on the new one. Which would have made sense if they hadn't transferred one of my coworkers to another department, fired another for calling in too much because her kid was sick, all while knowing another was going to be moving out of state.

It's 2026, and the wealthiest country in the world is dealing with food sanitation issues you'd have expected maybe in the 19th century. The biggest headlines are about cyclosporiasis, which seems to be caused by a single-celled parasite being found in an ever-increasing list of produce. That's not to say the life of a carnivore is any safer, since screw worms are literally eating livestock alive.

I was talking to a coworker today about the recent holiday weekend. Neither of us went to the fireworks, because we don't really like crowds--especially post-COVID. Work. Sucks. We had a stretch for awhile, where things seemed to be going okay. Then one of my coworkers got fired for far less egregious things than a few others I could name--and we kept those people around longer. Which sucks, because I liked this one. And the bosses want to hold off on hiring anyone to replace her, because we're having a system migration in July, and they don't want to waste time training someone new in on the current software, only to have them have to start all over in a few weeks.

If you've been paying attention to...well, anything lately, you know that the United States was just hours away from committing premeditated genocide, before our witless leader agreed to a two-week ceasefire. But still, threatening to "end a civilization" is tantamount to inciting genocide, which is forbidden under the Genocide Convention of 1948, under Article 3(c).

It's a question I get asked on occasion. My area is pretty far removed from...a lot of things, really; it's at least a four-hour drive to get to any sort of truly large city. The local economy isn't exactly great, property values are absurdly high, when you look at how little there is to do around here, and while there is nice scenery, it tends to be buried under multiple feet of snow for a third to half of the year.

Hindsight
We're currently undergoing a remodel where I work, and it's...not really going as planned. They just got all of the offices usable again, a week and a half behind schedule, the new desks they put in take up like 75% of the floor space, and one--and only one--of the offices has carpet that looks like dirty, bare concrete. It's not mine, but I really have to wonder if the CEO just doesn't like that particular person or something.

#AssassinationClassroom #TakopisOriginalSin I love #anime because it's the only medium I know that can support not 1 but 2 poignant explorations of man's inhumanity to man as told through stories about goofy-looking octopus aliens trying to make children happy.

Baby’s first dictatorship
It's been a weird week when it comes to entertainment. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert got cancelled for "financial reasons," which is a weird way of spelling "fear of retribution from a petty tyrant." But then, mere days later, the same company renewed South Park for several seasons, and the first thing the creators did was spend an entire episode mercilessly mocking the toddler-king.

Where we’re going, we won’t need…eyes. You might be expecting me to be talking about a horror game today, with a title like that, but nope. Bit of a story behind what brought this word to mind: So, my wife and I went to see the fireworks downtown last week. Our city is situated on a lake, so we…

You might be expecting me to be talking about a horror game today, with a title like that, but nope. Bit of a story behind what brought this word to mind: So, my wife and I went to see the fireworks downtown last week. Our city is situated on a lake, so we went down to the lower harbor and found a spot to sit right by the water while we waited for it to get dark.

Tragicomedy 2025 has been an absolutely incredible year for games so far, which makes for a nice high point to distract us from, well...everything else. But the year's only half-over, and we've already had Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (my presumptive GOTY, unless something else really floors me),…

2025 has been an absolutely incredible year for games so far, which makes for a nice high point to distract us from, well...everything else. But the year's only half-over, and we've already had Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (my presumptive GOTY, unless something else really floors me), Look Outside (a fantastic pixel art cosmic horror game), Blue Prince (an architectural roguelike, of all things), and the very underrated…

I really miss #E3, because you could just sit down and watch one show in the summer, instead of trying to keep track of the 10+ other shows that have sprung up in its wake.

Busy news day I really wish I'd learned the word "haboob" (a dust storm) from a game, because it would be perfect, considering there's one sweeping across Florida right now. Also, I guess I am perpetually 12 years old. But speaking of 12-year-olds, Elon Musk attested today to the worst-kept secret…

Busy news day
I really wish I'd learned the word "haboob" (a dust storm) from a game, because it would be perfect, considering there's one sweeping across Florida right now. Also, I guess I am perpetually 12 years old. But speaking of 12-year-olds, Elon Musk attested today to the worst-kept secret in the world, by saying Donald Trump is in the Epstein files. And in a roundabout way, that does bring us to today's word.

It could always be worse And it probably will. Speaking mainly to my US readers here, but I mean...*gestures broadly*. In a month, they'll probably have banned schools, and sent children back to the mines, with breaks only for a few hours of sleep, and witch burnings where attendance is mandatory.…

And it probably will. Speaking mainly to my US readers here, but I mean...*gestures broadly*. In a month, they'll probably have banned schools, and sent children back to the mines, with breaks only for a few hours of sleep, and witch burnings where attendance is mandatory. I mean, what, do we expect kids older than seven to eat for free…
