It took me a while to spot how to actually turn this off completely. It's hidden in a new "Gemini" menu they added, under "Bottom bar preferences".
Screenshot of Google Docs. A "Gemini" menu is visible between "Tools" and "Extensions". A "Bottom bar preferences" sub-menu is open, with "Turn off" ticked.

Some change may be coming? walthamforestecho.co.uk/2026/06/27/n...
Mayor of London Sir Sadiq Khan is leaning towards removing guidance in the new London Plan that effectively blocks air conditioning from being installed in newbuild homes, after previously declining to rule out a change.

While City Hall insists there’s no ban on AC in London homes, the guidance for developers – instructing them to prioritise “passive” cooling measures such as shading – means they are less likely to include AC in building plans as it could make it easier for councils to refuse applications.

I did find the regulation that's apparently what effectively discourages installing AC in new builds, though. assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/6218c5...
mechanical cooling may only be used where
insufficient heat is capable of being removed
from the indoor environment without it.

Tried testing it on my handle, but keep hitting "Authentication required" errors even though I'm authenticated.

I don't understand how Starmer (and the rest of Labour continuing to support him) can look at this graph and think the solution is to just double down yet again.
Graph of UK party polling over the last two years, showing Labor trending consistently and rapidly down since Starmer became PM.

Surveillance capitalism has assured that the systems of commercial ad tech can be very good at tracking you individually. This tracking turns out to not be particularly useful for marketing, but it is going to be terrifyingly useful for these new bounty hunters.

"I'm in this photo and I don't like it" meme.

It looks like adding a new post to a thread will push it back into the feed and restore its thread rendering, but only until it's reposted again.
A test thread with three posts, rendered in the feed as a thread. The first post of the test thread, reposted. It's not rendered as a thread. The test thread after a fourth post is added. It is rendered as a thread, with the first, third, and fourth posts visible. A "View full thread" link is between the first and third posts.A repost of the fourth post of the test thread. It isn't rendered as a thread, but there is a small label indicating it's a reply.

Left is how this thread originally appeared in my feed - pretty clearly a thread. Right is after I reposted and refreshed my feed - zero indication it's a thread. But it's actually worse than I thought. The original thread is now entirely missing from my feed - only the repost appears!
A three-post thread, where all three posts are visible in order, and vertical lines on the left clearly link them together as a thread. The first post from the thread reposted by me. The two subsequent posts are not visible, and there's no indication it's the start of a thread.

Apparently you can sell pop filters for Blue Yetis without realizing they're side-address.
Image containing two photos of Blue Yeti microphones with curved pop filters placed across the top of them.

The product title is "Pop Filter for blue yeti microphone Pack of 1 ( microphone not included )". The price is $16.90, down from $30.90.

There's a diagram on page 2 of the quickstart guide and everything!
Two line drawings showing people speaking into Blue Yeti mics. The left shows a person speaking into the front of the mic, and has a large tick. The right shows a person speaking into the top of the mic, and has a large cross.

Clicking "Settings" takes you to the general settings page, not to any specific setting related to my "listening behaviour". Based on the description, my guess is they mean this "Dynamic queue" setting on a different page, but I already have this turned off?
A settings menu. The "General" tab is selected. The shown settings are "Restricted Mode", "Show your liked music from YouTube", "Remember most recently used playlist". All are disabled.A settings menu. A "Dynamic queue" setting is shown, with the description "Get queue and radio updates based on your listening behaviour". It is disabled.

I can't decide if this "We're listening!" proclamation from YouTube music is refreshingly honest, or disturbingly indicative of their belief we see their omnipresent surveillance as a positive.
Screenshot of a website popup dialog. The title says "We're listening!". The body text says "We've updated your upcoming music based on your listening behaviour. You can change this in settings." Two buttons are shown at the bottom: "Got it" and "Settings".

This is unequivocally bad, but also a "I didn't think they'd eat *my* face" moment for NewsGuard, after their CEO tried to throw GDI to the proverbial leopards last year.
Screenshot of a tweet reading "NEW: Newsguard's CEO, Gordon Crovitz, slams the Global Disinformation Index and other similar groups that are secretly blacklisting conservative media outlets."

The tweet links an article from the Washington Examiner titled "Only transparent, apolitical ratings for news publishers can be trusted"

You haven't run into them yet? My feed the last few days has been 30% people posting starter packs lol. You can create them from the Starter Pack tab in your profile page.

Turns out that my wife and I working in our living room for multiple hours isn't great for the CO2 levels. Probably should have gotten an air monitor 5 years ago 😓
An AirGradient air monitor, showing 4 red lights. The screen shows a CO2 level of 1168 ppm.

If there's no display they're simply not AR at all. A nit-pick, but at least with AR there's a practical non-surveillance reason for the camera. This is just straight-forward surveillance.

Yip, updated yesterday to the version that's supposed to fix the issue where all UI text is clipped. Text is still clipped in a lot of places, and most of the other issues I've run into persist as well.
Screenshot of the reply compose screen with instances of clipped text circled in red. e.g. "Cance", "Repl"
