Given Russia is assisting Iran in attacking the US in the Gulf, this is a level of treason that would make Petain look like De Gaulle.

Do you think Polanski will stand down as Green party leader as a result of a potential loss? Before that motion I'd have said he'd hold on regardless, but now a by-election defeat could provide an easy exit from having to defend that shambles of a situation.

Note also that many of the shady wealthy interests going after Muslims supported the various wars in their homelands that led to many Muslims fleeing in the first place.

I'm not an expert on publishing, but if that's a near-literal description of what the publisher did, have you taken legal action against them?

The one upside I can think of with this news is the sheer scale will provoke a stronger reaction that's more likely to result in tougher rules than if these sums were not exchanged

Unions and those backing them need to realise they will never complete with donors like this guy unless a cap is brought in, even if this also caps the unions themselves.

Social media has played a large part in making this possible. A mainstream outlet would struggle to justify inciting attacks on charities and would be reported. On social media however, all it takes is a bot army and a few bad actors to incite this and let algorithms do the rest.

Trump putting his lackey in place of the incumbent, combined with Trump's own recklessness and corruption generally, goes a long way to explaining this.

The unions and Labour MPs closely associated with them need to realise that they will never compete with Harborne, Murdoch, etc., without a donation cap, even when it means capping themselves in the process.

World Wars, CFCs and Covid all have one thing in common. Humanity can mobilise and move very rapidly when a pressing need exists. I expect at some point a war-footing approach to climate change will join this group.

After the inevitable reckoning arrives (just as it did for South Africa), historians and psychologists will for decades be studying how it's possible for the government, military and corporations of a country with a population the size of London to entirely control Western foreign policy.

Meanwhile Hegseth tries to use D-Day commemorations to attack migration into Europe, conveniently forgetting a large part of this can be traced to American misadventures in the Middle East and Afghanistan, and I suspect now Trump's Iran mess too.

The single-biggest policy needed towards addressing this is to ban all private donations to political parties. Property developers are among the biggest donors, so it's no surprise many policies exist in their favour. Would also stop crypto donations of illicit Russian money going to Farage et al.

If the world manages to not end imminently, historians will go to great lengths trying to understand how a nation with a population the size of London was able to control and gaslight the world's dominant superpower into doing whatever it wanted.

The RAC think the gain so far is £100m, which in the grand scheme of things is not much (about £1-1.5bn a year), especially if long-term 'demand destruction' leads to reduced economic activity and a tax bill reduction greater than this value: www.racfoundation.org/media-centre...
