Did the 9 books thing. Not necessarily the best I've read, but ones I've returned to or think about from time to time. And yes, George Will wrote one of the best baseball books out there. myninebooks.com/g/664c630a4e88

Agree! Today's DIVs absorbed former BCT capabilities (Fires, Sustainment, Collection). Additionally, reduction in reconnaissance and security capacity created a DIV transition zone where the DIV must conduct battle handover with BCTs that cannot sense or deliver effects to fill this gap.

@gpatrick.bsky.social Check out the author of this piece on drones as a maneuver force. Had no idea he was doing this type of work. Apparently he lives near me too. No Slack! www.armyupress.army.mil/Journals/Mil...

They are called Montauk or Nippon daisies.

These didn't do much last year (when I planted them). They bloom in late September / early October here so we were anxiously waiting to see what they produced. Not disappointed at all!

Definitely planting more daisies next year. Love these!

Always read Stephen Biddle. He and his co-authors discuss the assumption that war ends in mil victory — and its implications for strategic decision-making, employment of the force, force design, and mob. of the industrial base to support protracted conflict. www.foreignaffairs.com/united-state...

100%. Mom is from NOLA. We did roast beef po boys quite a bit growing up. Jambalaya or red beans and rice are solid choices too.

- Naively equating mil power (lethality) with deterrence as if deterrence is something you do and not actions or potential credible actions taken against an adversary to either make them do something they don’t want to or keep them from doing something they want to. 3/3

This results in several pathologies: - willingness to use force when it’s not suitable for the political problem - failure to develop / incentivize expertise grounded in an understanding of history, sociology, politics, economics… 2/3

My issue with “lethality” is both its lack of definition / measurement and how it is treated as an end, not a means to be combined w/the non-mil instruments of national power. Army doctrine gets at this but is broad, and IMO not embraced by its senior leaders. ⬇️ 1/3

I’ve given shorter change of command speeches. You didn’t just redeploy after spending 15 months in Baqubah during the surge. Have some self-respect!

What Jennica Pounds is leaving out of this sob story about her gig at the Pentagon coming to a close is: In August, she promoted hacked and stolen material, per @theintercept.com. And she appeared to have a longstanding relationship with the account that first posted about said hack.

I have submitted my resignation from the Department of War.
It has been an honor to support the mission of the Department. I remain a strong supporter of our nation's military and Secretary Hegseth's leadership.
I'm stepping back to focus on my book tour and midterms analysis in the months ahead.
I do want to say I'm disappointed by how Special Government Employees, not just myself, have been treated in public discourse.
The SGE program exists so that talented private citizens can serve their country without leaving their lives behind. We as a nation can find a better way to welcome those who want to serve their country.
I'm grateful to have had the opportunity. I wish the Department and Secretary Hegseth continued success.

Nor does she mention all the careers she helped end (for no reason) of talented Americans who actually have served their country for years nor the chaos she left behind for those who are still there. Oh but poor her, mmkay.
