Who's ready for another instalment of "blurry photos of cool Australian birds"!? Pale Headed Rosellas are around, but they seem very shy, very jumpy. This is as close I was willing to get, at this point it was already getting ready to take off. Fortunately it […] [Original post on bne.social]

Bog-standard Australian subtropical bush. In the middle, very small, is a bright yellow and blue parrot. A Pale Headed Rosella, though you can barely see it. It's perhaps five or six metres away, perched in a tree overhanging a dry creek bed.

A zoomed in version of the last picture. Zoomed into the point where everything is blurry and artefact-y. It looks terrible, but at least you can make out the general shape and colours of the aforementioned parrot.

Jet goes home today. It’s been a blast having this double act cruising around for the week. To the right, not pictured, is a six year old eating a pastry.

Two whippets next to a small outdoor cafe table, staring intently at something out of frame.

I think Rosie has really enjoyed having Jet around.

A close up of Rosie the Whippet, sound asleep, with her head resting on Jet the Whippet’s bum.

I was going to get up, but I’m worried that might be illegal now.

A brown and white Whippet sleeping with her head resting on the bum of a black Whippet Italian Greyhound cross who’s asleep with his head resting on my leg. It’s all very cosy.

#Whippet #DogsOfMastodon

A brown and white Whippet (Rosie) and a black Whippet Italian Greyhound cross (Jet) are snuggled up together on someone’s feet who is laying on a couch. Jet is curled into a doggy donut. Rosie is practically laying on top of Jet. Which is not uncommon. Both doggos are looking at the camera.

This is Jet’s bed. Jet is currently tucked in with the kid in his bed.

Rosie the Whippet in a pose I can best describe as outrageously relaxed. She’s tangled up in an orange blanket, half on her back so her paws are in the air. Her head is half buried in bedding, you can see her snout poking out with slightly bared teef.

We are dog-sitting. The smaller black Whippet Italian Greyhound cross is Jet, our guest for the week. Rosie is quite happy to have a friend around, though she prefers Jet's bed, even when Jet is already in it. Jet is not on board with this. Each dog prefers the […] [Original post on bne.social]

A large white and brown Whippet (Rosie) and a smaller jet-black Whippet Italian Greyhound cross (Jet) are resting on cushions outside in the sunshine. The large white and brown Whippet looks slightly sullen.

A large white and brown Whippet (Rosie) and a smaller black Whippet Italian Greyhound cross (Jet) are walking side by side down a wide bush track.

A large white and brown Whippet is laying more or less on top of a smaller, black Whippet Italian Greyhound cross who is just trying to rest in his bed, under his cozy blanket, and would prefer not to have to deal with this big oaf.

Big book

A copy of The Growth of Biological Thought by Ernst Mayr held so you can see the edges of its pages making an intimidating solid block.

A bit moody up at the radio tower this morning. CC. @brisbane_noir

Looking up from the base of a radio tower. I’d estimate it at perhaps 80 odd metres tall. It’s a wireframe square base pyramid. From this perspective it forms a triangle with its base spanning the bottom, and its vertex at the centre of the frame. The sky above is overcast with roiling grey cloud. The dark silhouette of a tree peaks in from the top of the frame.
