Yep, including their neighbors. I know this is anecdotal, but so many people (especially when I was in USGOV) expressed progressive opinions to me but would stick to their tribe because not doing so would be showing weakness.

I came to say something like this. Unfortunately, supporting one party is seen as macho or strong and it attracts those people. Supporting the other party is seen as progressive and inclusive and attracts those people. A person who has progressive views but feels the need to act macho? 😑

I mean, the LLM itself isn't destructive. The uses to which humans put it, the strain we put on the environment, and the behavior of the corporations that run them is horrifically destructive. But the LLM itself is just a tool, no better or worse than any other.

Which is not to say that machine intelligence is per se impossible; it is perfectly possible that a machine can and will learn to think in a subjective, conscious way through the same process that generated human (and presumably other) sapience: time and evolution.
