of course, dylan was already one step removed from bruce hampton from all those times he sat in with the dead in 2003 when jimmy herring was a member (but ge smith was out of bob's band & tony garnier was out of the SNL band when bruce was on SNL in 1992).

this will only mean something to very few heads but it's kinda wild that the first credit on the bio of bob dylan's new guitarist mike seal is that he plays with jeff sipe, aka apartment q258 of the aquarium rescue unit, putting dylan two steps removed from col. bruce hampton […]

Classics of the Grateful DeadALLAN ARKUSH: They were playing at
the Shrine Auditorium [in Los Angeles],
during the baseball playoffs in [October]
1976. Jerry said: “Oh, you gotta go say
hello to the band. They're right down
there, on the right.” I walk there and I see
these old guys playing poker. I said, “I
thought you said that’s the band.”

Garcia says, “Yes, that’s the band.” Then
he told me this thing about the Shrine
Auditorium. If you were a rock band com-
ing into their place, the union rules said
that you were usurping the job of the
house band. You had to hire the house
band and pay them off, because you were
taking their jobs. He thought it was end-
lessly funny.
