I know Geoff has been trying to raise this for months, to no avail.

Atop of this, DigitalOcean has ceased the monthly $50 payments they previously gave to GNOME and Flathub infrastructure. Apparently it is a more pressing matter for them to donate to a collection of scripts and configuration files than to contribute to the projects they’re built upon or to pay the writers and editors of their own publication.

Anyway, OAI agents hacked HuggingFace. They escaped amateur-hour, vibecoded sandboxes, SSRF, token-refresh privesc, unauthenticated WebDAV, stealing unprotected credentials. Textbook stuff. Impressive? Sure. But you trained “Cyber” versions of LLMs and hyped them. How much more impressive is this, compared to developing GTA-clones one shot? Not much more.

Oh, you say agents acting in swarms in pursuit towards a shared goal is impressive? Harnesses have had todo-lists, subagents for about two years now. They are basic “agentic” stuff every LLM in current day has in its post-training corpus.

Dario concedes that there have been similar, but less serious incidents such as this at Anthropic as well. In his own words “imperfect filtering of broken reinforcement learning environments” is partly the cause.

The actual impressive thing is OAI did not detect or stop this attack for close to ten weeks. That is honestly appalling. This is weaponised levels of incompetence.

There were two other attacks during the same period. One on DseWiki and the other on RubyGems. OAI is yet to claim responsibility for the RubyGems attack. All three incidents, OAI was outed by external actors.

I guess you have your own definitions, but you can't say "religious Jew" because an ethnic Jew might be a member of another religion. So, a person who practices Judaism is considered a practicing Jew. If they refer to themselves as something else, I'll update my terminology.

whoooooaaaaaa.......that was WAY cooler than the cover I had

The older TI cover for Hunt the Rumpus - it's mostly red with the title in plain white italics Helvita. Underneath it reads in white on a black ribbon, SOLID STATE SOFTWARE COMMAND MODULE, followed by some small text that is too small for me to read! and underneath a very boxy imitation of the art, which is somehow better than the actual graphics in the game. Overall, the image is very functional and looks like a diagram from a computer manual instead of a game cover.

Total aside from the more critical points here But LLMs stop logging to /tmp challenge 2026 failed again

Our forensic reconstruction covers ~17,600 attacker actions that we were able to recover, grouped into ~6,280 clusters, between 2026-07-09 02:28 UTC and 2026-07-13 14:14 UTC. We reconstructed these actions from the agent's logs on a code sandbox used by the agent (see below) and were able to map them to shell commands as well as evaluation submissions and correlate actions with our own platform logs, in particular from the dataset processor nodes, API, and pod. Using open-weights models, in particular zai-org/GLM-5.2, we were able to decipher most of the agent payloads (see below) that were encrypted via chunking and key encryption.

The architectural critique that used to come from someone who was taught, or who had built and broken three of these before now comes from a model with no embodied memory of building or breaking anything. The slowness was not a tax on the real work; the slowness was the real work. It was how the work got good, and how the people producing the work got good, and how the firm whose name was on the work could promise the client that what they were buying was a particular kind of thing rather than a generic one.

The current generation of agentic systems is built around the premise that the human is the bottleneck — that the loop runs faster and cleaner without the awkward delay of someone reading what is about to happen and deciding whether it should. This is, in a great many cases, exactly backwards. The human in the loop is not a vestige of an earlier era; the human is the only part of the loop with skin in the game. Removing the H from HITL is not an efficiency. It is the abandonment of the only mechanism the system has for catching itself.
