I have to say, holding back from animating more, especially frames for the bots, is so hard. I know I could do it, and I know it would look great, but every other aspect of the game would crawl to a stop. Reminder to polish later if there's time. Don't go over scope. #indiedev #gamedev #BotHacker

Maybe you save at a checkpoint that updates the safe file, but if you save anywhere else it doesn't update that save but creates a temporary "continue from here", and then returns to start menu. That tempsave is destroyed when you load it and isn't used when you roll back on death.

This tool doesn't directly modify the files themselves but will print a string of data in my intended format. It's technically not readable in this state, but the nested arrays keep the data block from being too massive (mostly for my own mental health), and the code unpacks it on load.

I had considered doing the backgrounds more vaguely, like the terrain circles you'd see in gen 3 or 4, but even displaying only at 640x360 there's a lot more pixels to work with than the GBA or DS. May as well use it for cool backgrounds.
