Karina Guo @botanicallykarina.bsky.social · 27/05/2026But importantly, those strong peaks give us a good predictive model. A genomic prediction model that allows us to produce an genetically expected score for disease resistance in seedlings and seed lots - forming the basis of my doctorate... more restoration ecology work to come in the soon future! 000
Karina Guo @botanicallykarina.bsky.social · 27/05/2026Key findings: Major genes associated with myrtle rust resistance! Look at those peaks on the Manhattan plot (the higher the peaks = the stronger the association). It definitely warrants further investigation, and we've only scraped the surface of it's investigation in this study. 100

New paper out, involving whole genome sequencing, rust assays, population genetics... From barely anything known of this species to quite something! doi.org/10.1111/mec.... 🧪 121
Karina Guo @botanicallykarina.bsky.social · 29/01/2026Blessed with a good day of birding. Sat and watched the birds come and go, even a kangaroo with their joey came and had a drink. Everyone gotta go sit in nature and reflect on their ecosystems every now and then. Pictured: black necked stork, glossy ibis, Lantham's snipe, red backed fairywren 030
