demonic screeches overhead. a hint of sulphur. red eyes in the shadows. #critterposting

I've seen a few people try use them and the good results come from attachments that are a few hundred dollars and pretty bulky anyway they mainly seem aimed at people that want to go photo->insta in a few seconds (the reeflex ones seem the popular option and they do work, but for the money...)

oh for sure there is a raptor spirit in there

Bossett @bossett.social · 02/08/2026

I feed them down the back of the garden (so they don't eat the furniture) and I'm pretty sure they have learned that if they do little tricks they can convince me to come outside

like any clever beast we just hope they stay distracted by shiny things and food

I think they're cataracts, less pronounced irl (the light weirder than it looks) it was moving between some trees, they took out a dead tree this morning which I think started 'operation new nap spot'

Bossett @bossett.social · 01/08/2026

ok so maybe I was a little paranoid it was gonna run away and no one would believe me

ya 😔 but not as pronounced as it looks there some of it is definitely the lighting but he was less photogenic when seen through the branch

I can't believe trickle down cameranomics has yet to deliver me a global shutter I can justify for backyard birds

a galah landing in a tree, wings outstretched

there is a noticeable rolling shutter effect on the wing

1142

Bossett @bossett.social · 25/07/2026

not super rare, if you go looking near here probably 50/50 if you find them

000

Bossett @bossett.social · 25/07/2026

that doesn't sound right if it was summer where's the christmas tree?

110

Bossett @bossett.social · 25/07/2026

both very skittish and absolutely zero situational awareness so we spent a bunch of time standing juuust off to one side

Bossett @bossett.social · 25/07/2026

in extreme conditions it becomes necessary to share body heat

two silvereyes pressed up against each other on a branch

1131

Bossett @bossett.social · 19/07/2026

😊 tyty I just like creatures and going places with creatures so I get to get a lot of practice

130

Bossett @bossett.social · 19/07/2026

distilled right down to the essence

020

Bossett @bossett.social · 18/07/2026

that's why we use a 1/3200s shutter so you have 3199/3200 to get away

010

Bossett @bossett.social · 18/07/2026

maybe could have cropped out the worst of the rolling shutter obviously next investment needs to be an a9 because I just can't have my backyard birds represented like this

131

Bossett @bossett.social · 18/07/2026

ok ok starting to work out this 'in flight' thing I think
