It's very obviously a joke to me, but to those who still believe GamerGate was a legitimate event with believable "goals," I could see how they would take this at face value as something that confirms their worldview.

So, Andrew Wakefield, the ex-doctor that was behind the original since-redacted “MMR vaccines cause autism” study, also suggested this, essentially. Splitting the vaccine into three distinct parts. This was, of course, because he was going to sell his own measles vaccines. History is a circle.

Looks like Goldfish is doing a Pokemon promotion. So, I think... Charmander?

God, he’s even doing the “split up the MMR” thing that Andrew Wakefield did (because he was trying to sell his own measles vaccine).

This is just tangential, but I wanted to actively applaud your use of “garden-variety” here. Absolute perfection.

I dunno if it's that odd -- it's been 16 years since the original show started airing, and the fans that grew up with the show are still eating well. May as well attract some young viewers with a new show that parents can watch along with 'em, and entertain both at the same time.

I mean, I agree it’s about money, but that also applies to Google’s heavily flawed automated flagging system, which is the more likely culprit here. Just like YouTube, it’ll randomly convulse at certain content, years down the line, while overlooking theoretically greater offenders.

To be clear, I don’t think this is cool on Google’s part in the slightest. I simply don’t think this has anything to do with the whole payment processor kerfuffle with Collective Shout and the like that we dealt with last year.

Google Pay is a digital wallet, not a payment processor. It doesn’t actually process transactions with merchants. Also, that’s a service they own? They’re not pressuring themselves to take down items from their store.

bornflunky.bsky.social @bornflunky.bsky.social · 09/04/2026
I’m aware, but this doesn’t seem to have any of the other associated hallmarks of being a payment processor thing. Not to mention, DDLC doesn’t include the type of content Collective Shout targeted last year. Just seems like Google’s poor moderation doing what it does.

Google isn’t really a payment processor, though. This doesn’t seem to be a payment processor thing. Rather, it seems like a random spasm of their ToS.

Got my hands on the Trace Memory/Another Code remake! Loved the original on DS, and the sequel was only ever across the pond. Glad I finally get to try it, I love some good mystery puzzles.

Roblox is also getting legally dragged. But whatever Roblox is doing? That doesn't make Valve innocent or immune. (Valve's loot boxes are -also- RNG.) Look up "Fallacy of Relative Privation."

No, it's actually exactly what needs to be done for there to be legal precedent for all of the other companies you're worried about.

Um, TF2, yes. Hence why you can't open Mann Co. crates in Belgium or the Netherlands. Like, a window pops up preventing you from doing so. 'Cause it's gambling. And nothing you mentioned about CS is an absolution from this issue. "Not as bad as FIFA" is not the bar, here.
000
bornflunky.bsky.social @bornflunky.bsky.social · 26/02/2026
The larger issue at play here is whether or not lootboxes constitute gambling, and the lack of legal precedent with digital goods like this. This could be that precedent. Valve is party to this issue, so here we are.
000
bornflunky.bsky.social @bornflunky.bsky.social · 26/02/2026
People are sore it's Valve 'cause they (understandably) like Steam. Heck, I like Steam, and Valve as a whole. A few minor changes with DotA's boxes doesn't mean that Valve is innocent in the whole lootbox gambling thing. TF2 and CS:GO still exist. This case absolutely holds some water.

bornflunky.bsky.social @bornflunky.bsky.social · 26/02/2026
Even when only cosmetic, loot boxes 100% affect the experience, and target people vulnerable to addiction in a predatory manner. "It's just cosmetic" isn't really an excuse anymore. It's psychological manipulation.

bornflunky.bsky.social @bornflunky.bsky.social · 26/02/2026
I'm a fan of Valve's work, but they -do- love their loot boxes, which is pretty anti-consumer. They aren't entirely innocent here.

Just in response to the "kids don't belong online" bit -- Speaking as a former kid who was rather thoroughly "othered" at school, and found refuge and social groups primarily via the Internet at the time? I dunno about that, chief. That kinda kept me sane and less depressed.

It's the first election year in nearly two decades where Senate Republicans aren't led by Mitch McConnell. A third of all Senate seats are being contested. I'm not necessarily optimistic, but it's not a possibility to outright dismiss.

Genuinely curious about the research in question, if you have it on hand! My cursory searches are only turning up studies about the extract being used to combat certain muscle wasting. And one about its effects when used in tea. Appreciate the positive post, nonetheless. o7

It’s worth remembering that Vance’s decorum during that debate was forced and phony — by multitudes more than could be expected from a public event. He was back to making utterly baseless and vulgar claims about the other ticket the very next afternoon.

She and her family received an ungodly amount of harassment and this still cost a ton of money to fight, frivolous as it was. I don’t say this to undercut the achievement, but to underline the significant effort and sacrifice it took to fight the cruelty.

This game is *painfully* good. Consistently managed to surprise and unsettle me in the best ways, and refused to let go the whole time with keenly-felt emotional highs and lows. The cast joins the likes of that of CrossCode in the “deeply hoping to see these characters again in future work” club.

To that end, chronicles such as this are vastly important. Coverage like Aaron's could be those young adults' first exposure to that political awareness, and put it into focus. And awareness is the first step (of many, I'll grant) to repelling this assault on our democracy.

Additionally, I think it's fair to assume we're in the same boat, insofar as the fact that neither of us are surprised by this development with Hannity, specifically. However, in my opinion, it's worth remembering that there are young adults constantly entering the realm of political awareness.

Seeing the authoritarian devolution, the development of news media into purely sycophantic propaganda, is newsworthy, and worth keeping tabs on. It's a chronicle of Trumpism -- historical accountability.
