Pregnancy loss is bereavement. From April 2027, employees who experience pregnancy loss before 24 weeks, including partners, will have a new legal right to up to two weeks of bereavement leave. We welcome this important step towards greater recognition and compassion for families experiencing loss.

Preterm birth complications are the leading cause of death among children under five globally. It’s a stark reminder of why research matters, and why we can’t stop searching for answers. With your support, we can fund the science needed to understand, treat and ultimately prevent premature birth. 💙

What difference could just one more week make? A huge one. 💗 Prolonging pregnancies destined for preterm birth by just one week could save the NHS over £260 million a year, while giving babies critical extra time to grow and develop. #everyweekmatters

That's one of the biggest challenges in preventing premature birth. That many happen unexpectedly, with little or no warning. Without reliable ways to identify who is at risk, opportunities for early intervention can be missed.

This Father's Day, we're sharing the voices of fathers whose lives have been touched by premature birth and baby loss. When Zack George spoke on The Borne Podcast about the loss of his son Leo, he also spoke about something many fathers experience but rarely discuss: grief.

Why does premature birth happen? We still don’t fully know. Borne-funded research from Imperial College London is exploring how the mother’s immune system may influence pregnancy and preterm birth, helping us move closer to earlier prediction and better outcomes for babies.
