“No, duh, you knob. Just teleport to Drascul house,” I ordered, and the next instant we were standing in front of the porch of a three story farmhouse. I jumped the steps and paused at the front door with my powers out. I didn’t feel a ward and the door was slightly ajar. “Someone’s been here.” I pushed it open, and a metaphysical buzz coursed through me as I crossed the threshold into the house, but that was it. They’d crashed through and weakened it. “Shit, shit, shit.”

I looked around, but there was nothing out of place. Where were the kids? Who did he take over to trick them into opening the door and leaving it ajar? I reached out, but felt no one.

Morpheus jolted out of his shock and darted inside. He ran through what looked like a living room and rounded a ten foot section that divided the house down the middle. I followed him and paused at another door. He’d opened it and disappeared down the stairs.

I followed his signature through a gaming room and lounge area, down a long hall, and found him standing at a thick steel door. He gently touched the metal and was thrown into the drywall on the other side of the hall.

“See…” he groaned as he pulled himself from the dent, “Ward.” I noticed a smaller dent inside his and nodded toward it. He saw it and groaned, “Someone else tried it.”

GOOD NEWS! My ankle isn’t broken! They took new X-rays and the doctor showed them to me. It’s just a bad ligament sprain and so I have to wear a walking boot for 2-3 weeks then a specific brace for 2-3 more weeks, but I can walk on it, no cast, and no surgery!!!

“You heal that fast?” he asked as he lifted the bottle to the top of the cuts. The most efficient way to distribute it would be to dribble it down from the top of my shoulders.

“Yes, and it’s getting hard to focus on keeping them back,” I admitted, and he quickly dropped enough in each of the eight cuts for it to slide to the bottom. I pulled my bandeau away from my back with telekinesis so the venin could get all the way down. When the antivenin started working, the wounds glowed a deep violet almost indigo. The cuts closed, and I slowly straightened.

Thank the Maker, it worked! I didn’t need another permanent injury. I gingerly rolled my shoulders then cringed as my left arm cramped. I sighed and held it with my right hand. Why was it acting up so much more now?

“Did she hurt your arm?” he asked, trying to look at it. At first, I didn’t want to show him, but remembered what the great braggart said about to letting him tend me echoed. I shook my head, but the cramp worsened, curling my fingers into claws, and my breath caught. “Hope.”

“Ma, I have to ask,” Giovanni said, before sticking a bite in his mouth at the same time I did. He chewed slow, giving himself time to rephrase what he wanted to say. He politely swallowed before continuing, “Do you have a plan to catch him?”

I chewed slower, but by the time I swallowed I still hadn’t come up with anything. It wasn’t like me to have no starting point, but I couldn’t rush into it, and I couldn’t use any agency resources, since I was technically still on leave. Damn it.

“Right now, I don’t. It has to be thought out, deliberate,” I trailed off as I thought through everything. Maalik thought I was dead, and word wouldn’t have gotten to him yet that I’d survived. I needed to take precautions. Guard against him. “First, I’ll need to cut him out of my triumvirates,” I said, making a mental list of people to get ahold of, “If I don’t, he’ll figure out that he didn’t kill me and finish the job.”

We were at the back of the room, and no one would've noticed our little make out session had he not called us out.

Ramah dropped his eyes to his notes, and I was done with this little soirée. The puppet addressing the room wasn't worth our time, and staying would only make me angry or blow up, which would draw more attention to me.

Whoever was pulling his strings knew I was on the brink of shyfting when Beryx calmed me. They wanted me to blow up and show everyone how much power I still held. I was not a pawn to be used like that. I glanced back at Beryx.

"I'm done pretending to listen to Ramah llama ding-dong. Let's get out of here, "I projected, and he smirked, standing straighter. He was waiting for my signal. He knew me so well.

When Ramah looked up from his notes, spouting utter nonsense about stricter laws concerning teleportation, I flipped him off and teleported Beryx and I to his bike. I tied my dress up again as he swung his leg over it and grinned.

"I was about to ask when you wanted to leave," he commented. I sent all the pins holding my hair home and shook out my hair, massaging my scalp. I summoned our helmets from home and slid his onto his head…

I despise run on sentences. I understand the need for a good long sentence with varying conjunctions and even a good comma splice, but periods are needed. Please, for the love of all things holy, ask someone who knows grammar to read your books before publication and TAKE THEIR ADVISE. #Writesky

I don’t normally point out grammar mistakes in books, but if you’re a “NYT best selling author” and I come across a SINGLE SENTENCE with 12 “ands”, a comma splice, an em dash –like this– AND a bit of dialogue in your book, I’m going to screenshot it as a reminder to myself. #WriteSky #Ouch
