Today is Truth and Reconciliation Day in Canada. The part of the TRC report that possibly angers me the most is how, ever since they were first built in the 1800s, inspectors regularly wrote reports detailing how completely unfit the schools were and how bad the system was but no one did a thing.

On April 11, 1865, Abraham Lincoln gave his last public address. In the crowd at the White House was Dr. Charles Leale and, it has been claimed, John Wilkes Booth. After hearing Lincoln speak in favor of Black suffrage, Booth is alleged to have said, "That is the last speech he will ever make."
A painting depicting Abraham Lincoln's final public address from the White House on April 11, 1865. Lincoln spoke in favor of readmitting Louisiana to the Union under a new state constitution, though he did not like the fact that the new constitution did not give voting rights to Black citizens. Lincoln's expression in support of Black suffrage caused one of the observers of the speech, John Wilkes Booth (shown on the bottom left), to vow, "That is the last speech he will ever make."

Captain Torture
A four frame comic about Captain Torture. The first frame shows the sign "BREAKING NEWS" and the drawing of a man, with the words "CAPTAIN TORTURES PASSES AWAY" near him. The second frame shows a journalist holding a mic, as she says "A controversial and divisive figure, Captain torture will be remembered for his key role in history." The News title is "Mourning day for Captain-". The third frame shows three posts on social media. The first one is by a man called Paul James @Paulitician. He writes: "I didn't always agree with Captain Torture but he sure was a man who believed in something." The second post by James Paul @Avegetable reads: "I pay my respects to Captain Torture and his family. His heart was in the right place- with our country." The third post is by SonicVomit @SonicBleh , and reads "HE TORTURED PEOPLE". The fourth frame shows an interview on TV. An angry man on the right is saying: "Let me tell you something, Jen. I think it's SICK to celebrate Captain Torture's death. These people should be LOCKED UP, and also tortured-". The news below says: "Every president on earth pays homage-".

In 1901, writer & Lincoln collector Osborn Oldroyd walked the escape route of John Wilkes Booth. During his visit behind Ford’s Theatre, he was greeted by some alley cats. Don’t wear down your paws like Oldroyd did. Consider taking a guided Lincoln Assassination Tour by bus instead. #NationalCatDay
An image of two book pages with digital alterations. On the left is a photograph of man wearing a hat, satchel, and carrying an umbrella. Under the man is the caption, “O.H. Oldroyd on a tramping your over the eighty miles of Booth’s flight.” Next to Oldroyd is a videogame sprite of an alley cat. The other page shows a block of text under the chapter title “Narrative of a walk…” The relevant line about cats being present in Baptist Alley behind Ford’s Theatre has been underlined in red.
