Jewish Christians never achieved political power in Judea, but they dominated the Church until 136 CE when Romans exiled all Jews from Jerusalem, making it a pagan city. With this humiliation, Judaism and Jewish Christianity lost credibility, and Paulinists gained control of the Church.

The Pauline churches maintained the original teaching of Jesus Christ and disobeyed the Jewish Christian leadership of the Church. Effectively a schism, but not official. Jewish Christians called themselves Jews and hated Paulinists. These Jews often instigated persecutions of Paulinist martyrs.

Modern thinkers like to say that Paul invented Christianity, but that is not in the New Testament. Paul preached the original Gospel, with additions made through gnosis by the elders. The authority of that Gospel caused churches to reject the Jewish gospel. Paul was true to Jesus Christ.

The change in the gospel of Peter, John, and James became the gospel of the Jewish Christians, the Ebionites, the Essenes, sometimes called the Gospel of the Hebrews or the Gospel of Matthew (not the same as the book in the NT). This Jewish gospel later became the basis of Islam.

Why did Peter, John, and James change the Gospel? Because they wanted political power. If James were accepted as Messiah by the Sanhedrin, and he eventually was, this might convince the Romans to name him king of Judea. But the priests killed James before the case could be made. #booksky
