The next book on Books & Brains is "Transcendent Kingdom" by Yaa Gyasi. The book explores optogenetics and how it can potentially be used to treat psychological disorders such as substance use disorder. I highly recommend reading along; it's one of my favorite novels!

What a weekend at the Mainzer Wissenschaftsmarkt! On Saturday and Sunday, I had the pleasure of presenting Books & Brains on stage. And together with intern Nina, I also handed out lots of bookmarks and stickers to fellow bookworms and science lovers. 📖🧠 Big thanks to everyone who showed up!

✨ Bewilderment ✨ is the first featured book on Books & Brains. It is only one of Richard Powers' amazing novels and was shortlisted for the 2021 Booker Prize. If you want to read the story before the book review is published, now is the time to do so! 📚
A hand holds a copy of Bewilderment by Richard Powers in front of a blurred bookshelf. White text at the top reads “Read with me.” The dark blue book cover shows a starry night sky with a comet and silhouettes of an adult and child sitting together, looking upward.A hand holds a copy of Bewilderment by Richard Powers in front of a blurred bookshelf. 👋🏼 Welcome to Books & Brains. 📚 On this page, I review stories that feature topics from the field of biopsychology and neuroscience. 🔎 I question the scientific claims within these stories and review the scientific literature to distinguish between what's real science and what's fiction.
A smiling person stands in front of a bookshelf filled with books, holding a model brain in one hand and a stack of novels in the other. Thought bubbles ask: “Are you fascinated by the human brain?”, “Do you love reading?”, and “What is this page about, and who is the person behind it?”. The image introduces a page that combines an interest in neuroscience with a passion for books.Text graphic displayed over a blurred bookshelf background. The text explains that the “Books & Brains” page features novels and short stories that explore topics in biopsychology and neuroscience. It also reviews the scientific claims made in these stories to help readers distinguish between established science and fictional elements.
