This Staff Pick Sunday, Kirsten is back with another Dungeons and Dragons romance! She recommends Level Up For Love by Lenora Woods. You can read her full review for it and other D&D romances at our website. www.bookmarkbeach.com/staff-picks/...
“Woods does an excellent job fleshing out both the “real-world” characters, as well as their in-game counterparts, and uses the gameplay to further explore the players. All of her characters, including the other players at Reagan and Wesley’s table, are richly developed, and have their own goals, fears and ambitions.”

This Staff Pick Sunday, Rona recommends Under the Falls by Richard Russo. You can read her full review on our website. www.bookmarkbeach.com/staff-picks/...
“Richard Russo is one of those authors who never seems to disappoint. No matter the place, the people, the plot, Russo masters the art of writing beautiful sentences, complex characters and relationships, all mixed with a good story.
Under the Falls is no exception.“

This Staff Pick Sunday, Sheryl recommends Love You More by Emily Giffin. You can read her full review on our website! www.bookmarkbeach.com/staff-picks/...
“Love You More is what my co-worker Brittany would call a “capital R romance” that is also a real page turner, with a side of emotional depth. I hope you read it and enjoy it, and then call us to order Ms. Giffin’s other books. Ms. Giffin is a bestselling author known for exploring complex themes and relationships. I hope you enjoy her writing as much as I do."

This #StaffPickSunday, Laura recommends Three Reasons for Revenge by Dervla McTiernan. You can read her full review on our website! bookmarkbeach.com/staff-picks/...

"An absorbing story of trauma and revenge smartly plotted for fans of crime fiction. Top shelf storytelling and good character development.
Three Reasons for Revenge begins with Alexis Turner, a Melbourne student, filing a police report against a psychologist for sexual assault. By the end of the day, she is nowhere to be found and things quickly spiral into something weird and sinister."

This Staff Pick Sunday, Brittany is recommending a newer book from one of her favorite authors, Ashley Poston, The Someday Garden. You can read her full review on our website. www.bookmarkbeach.com/staff-picks/...
"Ashley Poston excels at writing romance books that encompass so much more than just a love story. Like so much in life, painful things happen alongside the happiest of times and Sophie's journey reflects that. I was kicking my feet and also maybe a little teary eyed throughout this one!"

Rona recommends The Typing Lady by Ruth Ozeki this Staff Pick Sunday! You can read her full review on our website. www.bookmarkbeach.com/staff-picks/...
“Ozeki has an eye for details that seem so small and perhaps insignificant but that tie us to a story or a person. These details highlight how in the right hands, even the smallest details can make a story come to life. And Ozeki’s writing, character development and story telling skills make her that person.“

This Staff Pick Sunday, Richard recommends two books, Unreliable Narrator by Araminta Hall and It Could Have Been Her by Lisa Jewell. You can read his full review on our website! www.bookmarkbeach.com/staff-picks/...
“This standalone book has everything a good psychological thriller could provide, even a creepy clown, who by the way, is not necessarily the creepiest character in the novel - a statement which should give readers an idea of the depths of the psychological in this thriller. No need to kick yourself like I am if you have not read Lisa Jewell yet.““When it comes to psychological thrillers, author Araminta Hall is always reliable in visiting the psychological depths of her characters, and her latest, Unreliable Narrator, is no exception. If you are looking for more psychological character studies than a plot riddled with blood and gore, Unreliable Narrator will definitely satisfy that thrill.”

This Staff Pick Sunday, Kirsten recommends Field Guide for the Formerly Villainous by Autumn K. England and The Radiant Dark by Alexandra Olivia. You can read her full review of each book on our website! www.bookmarkbeach.com/staff-picks/...
“It would be easy for Field Guide for the Formerly Villainous to relegate the actually villainy to the past. But the past has a way of intruding on the present, even when we'd rather it not. In England's skillful hands, Oaklin's complicated past isn't erased or smoothed over but instead lingers, forcing the reader to acknowledge that good people can have horrific backgrounds.”“The Radiant Dark is shockingly human, with the family narrative taking the forefront as the space saga unfolds in the background. Oliva does an excellent job of exploring each member of the family with equal weight and sympathy, even as they fail to do the same to each other. If you also love reading about the mundane juxtaposed with the extraordinary, you will love this book.”

This Staff Pick Sunday, Sheryl recommends Whistler by Ann Patchett and Daughters of the Sun and Moon by Lisa See. You can read her full review on our website! bookmarkbeach.com/staff-picks/...
“Ms. Patchett does a wonderful job, as usual, exploring relationships and complex family dynamics. Themes of love, family, forgiveness, loss and deep connection are explored with Ms. Patchett’s beautiful prose. I invite you to read and enjoy Whistler, and the relationship between Daphne and Eddie. It is being called one of the best books of the year, and it is.““Lisa See is an AAPI author who has written many fabulous books about Far East Asia and its people. She is historical fiction at its best, but in a setting that might be new to you. She writes about women who bond together and form community, and I always learn something. It is always exciting when she has a new book, and I raced through this one. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.“

This Staff Pick Sunday, Rona recommends Country People by Daniel Mason. You can read her full review on our website! And don't forget - reviews run in our newsletter, The Postcard, each Friday! www.bookmarkbeach.com/staff-picks/...
“Unlike Mason’s other novels, Country People is humorous in how it deals with the west coast city folk adapting to rural life on the opposite coast. The characters who enter their lives are quirky, fascinating and delightful. Add to this a secret society looking for a subterranean world, and you have the makings for a fun romp in the countryside. I’d say this is the perfect read for a lazy summer day.“

This Staff Pick Sunday, Brittany (and Kirsten!) recommend The Unicorn Hunters by Katherine Arden! You can read her full review on our website. bookmarkbeach.com/staff-picks/...
“I was enthralled with how Arden wove together history and fantasy. She brought Anne of Brittany to life as a strong woman willing to do anything to save her homeland. I can’t wait to go back and read some of her older books now that I’ve had a taste of her writing.”“In Arden's deft hands, Anne of Brittany is alive once again, in a world filled with magic and secrets. The Unicorn Hunters is a beautiful story about what happens when magic grants women a little power, and what they can do when they have it. Of course, the true magic is what Arden's created between the pages of this gorgeous novel.”

This Staff Pick Sunday, Richard recommends The Last Mandarin by Louise Penny and Mellissa Fung. You can read his full review on our website! bookmarkbeach.com/staff-picks/...
“Penny and Fung keep the story moving with plenty of twists and turns as you would expect with an international thriller, but the personal story of the mother and daughter and the lives they have lived, and their relationships with others, keeps the novel from becoming bogged down in computerese. Be ready for a quick read - you might not even have time to enjoy a coconut bun.”

This Staff Pick Sunday, Kirsten and Rona recommend Children of the Wild by Kevin Powers. You can read their full review on our website! bookmarkbeach.com/staff-picks/...
“This is a perfect book. The writing is exquisite. The characters are complex and well-developed. The descriptions of places and events, and war in particular, are poetic. Insights into human behavior and life are instructive and worth remembering. And on top of all this, there is a story with surprises that don’t end until the very last sentence. It’s a marvel!”“At its heart Children of the Wild is a story about brotherhood, love and friendship. It’s about sacrifice and responsibility. It’s a gorgeous novel - Powers was a James A. Michener Fellow in Poetry, and this shows in every line. Every word feels utterly essential, like a handpicked gem.”

“At 81, Elsie, “Mad Mabel” is content to live out her remaining years alone where her neighbors aren’t aware she was the youngest convicted murderer in Australia.

Is Elsie misunderstood or a cold blooded killer? Mad Mabel is a beautifully crafted tale with unforgettable characters that you instantly want to champion.”

This is the first of two Staff Pick Sunday posts for you! This week, Sheryl recommends Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke! You can read her full review on our website. bookmarkbeach.com/staff-picks/...
“Ms. Burke does a great job fully developing her characters. Natalie is a completely introverted narcissist who treats every other character with disdain, yet there are times when the reader has empathy for her. Throughout the novel, Ms. Burke explores gender roles and our obsession with social media through a lens of both humor and darkness, using Natalie as her lightning rod.”

Kirsten has two great sequels for you this #StaffPickSunday! She recommends The Fake Divination Offense by favorite author Sara Raasch, and Villain by Natalie Zina Walschots. You can read her full review on our website. www.bookmarkbeach.com/staff-picks/...
“As always, Raasch's latest is thrilling from beginning to end. Raasch isn't afraid to shy away from tricky topics like attachment issues stemming from PTSD. At the same time, The Fake Divination Offense doesn't take itself too seriously, and a plot twist halfway through had me screaming. Like her previous novels, it's sexy, spicy romp. I couldn't put it down.”“Walschots’ novel is absolutely gripping, and I love her take on the more mundane aspects of villainy. She does a great job of demonstrating how horrific crimes can be committed in spreadsheets and databases, and how the supposedly good side isn’t always better. If you haven’t read Hench yet, you’ll definitely need to pick that up before reading Villain, but lucky for you, both are phenomenal novels.”

This Staff Pick Sunday, Brittany recommends Into the Blue by Emma Brodie. You can read her full review on our website! www.bookmarkbeach.com/staff-picks/...
“Into The Blue drew me in from page one with beautiful writing, an interesting premise and characters to root for! With a little magic AJ and Noah’s love story was a refreshing breath of fresh air that had me sitting on the edge of my seat in the best way through the whole book. A story I wasn't expecting to be sucked into, this might be one of my favorite books I've read so far this year.”
