what people don't understand about orientalism is that it's not only about white vs non-white, west vs east. racism is a factor, of course, and imperialism was brought on by the west, hence white/west/colonial ideologies has become a forerunner in orientalism

ngl it irks me whenever my co-workers try to introduce tagalog to japanese people by saying there are spanish words in it and using the "uno dos tres quatro" as an example like girl we literally have "isa dalawa tatlo apat lima" the more archaic tagalog way of counting
