365 Albums from 1986 279. A-ha - Scoundrel Days It’s got a big pop sound, but nothing that really sticks. I could see a few songs sticking with repeated listens though. Maybe, Maybe is a sleeper.

365 Albums from 1986 278. Benjamin Orr - The Lace Solidly good synth pop. A tick better than Ocasek’s solo album. The top 40 single (Stay The Night) is one of the weakest tracks on the album. There are a lot of better songs here to choose from.

365 Albums from 1986 277. Til Tuesday - Welcome Home Top 5 album of 1986 for me. Maybe even top 3. All 3 of their albums were fucking fantastic, but this was them at their peak. Hell I still listen to this several times a year 40 years later.

365 Albums from 1986 276. Commodores - United Lackluster collection of R&B songs. I listened to this last night. I'm looking at the song titles right now and not one of these registers.

365 Albums from 1986 275. Cowboy Junkies - Whites Off Earth Now!! Mesmerizing-unhurried-blues-heavy debut that sounds like it came from any other decade than the 80’s. This one was a treat.

365 Albums from 1986 274. John Fogerty - Eye of the Zombie Regardless of year, Fogerty makes great bluesy rock albums. This is no exception. Critics were overly harsh, but there are a lot of fun songs here. Fuck ‘em. (James Cameron owes somebody money for ripping off that album cover for Avatar)

365 Albums from 1986 273. Chicago - Chicago 18 Instantly forgettable glossy lifeless David Foster production completely devoid of anything interesting. (And what the fuck was up with that fucking atrocious remake of 25 or 6 to 4? Goddamn that was awful)

365 Albums from 1986 272. New Order - Brotherhood Near-perfect new wave synth pop album. They were at the top of their game here.

365 Albums from 1986 271. OMD - The Pacific Age So-so synth pop. I can see it growing on me though with repeated listenings. Goddess of Love is mildly interesting as it was to be the original single from Pretty in Pink until the movie ending was changed. Their replacement song was much better.

365 Albums from 1986 270. Iggy Pop - Blah-Blah-Blah It’s not what I would’ve expected, but that’s not a bad thing. It’s very 80’s & I like 80’s. David Bowie clearly hand a large hand in it. I can see why the diehards would hate it though.

Spent $15 to get into a card show today. Walked around for a half hour without spending another cent. Lots of tables with $1 boxes full of dime cards. I even saw an 86T Dale Berra card with a $10 price tag. What the holy fuck. I did get to see a couple of wrassling greats though...

365 Albums from 1986 269. Iron Maiden - Somewhere in Time Another metal album that sounds like the same song from start to finish. The music was so-so. The vocals were grating. Cool album cover though. Moving on.

365 Albums from 1986 268. Sparks - Music That You Can Dance To Bombastic high energy synth/dance/techno/rave/club music. They weren’t bullshitting with the title.

365 Albums from 1986 267. Boston - Third Stage It’s not bad, but after an 8 year layoff it feels like it coulda/shoulda been better? Amanda, We’re Ready, & Cool the Engines were clearly written at the beginning of the decade when they still had "it." The rest of it that followed is just meh.

For 40 years I never noticed that Topps went in & removed all the magenta from the Yankee Stadium background on this card. Looking at the hard outline around Jones, I'm wondering if that was even the actual background of his photo.

365 Albums from 1986 266. Felt - Forever Breathes the Lonely Word Fantastic textured pop that sounds like a lovely blend of Lou Reed, Lloyd Cole & The Commotions, and dash of 80’s REM.

365 Albums from 1986 264. Corey Hart - Fields of Fire Unremarkable yet competent pop album. I listened to it two nights in a row and I don’t remember a single standout song.

365 Albums from 1986 263. Kenny G - Duotones Smooth jazzy pop. I’d completely forgotten about Songbird. Interesting that the album was released in September but that single didn’t chart until spring of 1987. That had to be one of the most played songs that year.

365 Albums from 1986 262. John Conlee - Harmony One of the great country voices does the best he can with some of the most all-time mediocre material. Class Reunion was cheesy schlocky fun.

365 Albums from 1986 261. Luther Vandross - Give Me the Reason Pleasant R&B mix despite nothing really standing out. I could probably listen to this 10 times & I wouldn’t remember a single song, but the fact that I would give it 10 more chances says something of its own, right?

365 Albums from 1986 260. Meat Loaf- Blind Before I Stop Meat Loaf without Steinman is just hamburger. Hell, most of the songs on here sound like some variation of that Cheap Trick song from the Top Gun soundtrack. You know what though? I would listen to it again.

365 Albums from 1986 258. Cyndi Lauper - True Colors It’s not unusual for a career defining debut album to be followed up by an album that just doesn’t quite reach those heights & that’s the case here. There are a few solid tunes but most of it falls flat.

To be fair, Finnegan had to get 5 outs that inning to overcome shitty D by McGonigle and Torres, who have become increasingly worse at it in the last month.

Finnegan in so the Jays should have that lead back shortly.

365 Albums from 1986 257. Talking Heads - True Stories Of all the bands I wish I’d been into more during my youth, Talking Heads is #1. In the years since, I don’t think I’ve ever heard a song of theirs that I didn’t dig. That being said, this album is just ok.

365 Albums from 1986 256. Elvis Costello & the Attractions - Blood & Chocolate EC’s 2nd album of 1986 gets back to the rock & raw sound he set aside for King of America. Both albums are fun. This is the better album of the two.

365 Albums from 1986 255. Love & Rockets - Express Equal parts eclectic, trippy, and groovy. Funny, I didn’t get into this one at all during the first listen last weekend. Last night I gave it another whirl and it clicked. This was a fun one.

Boobie Maine @boobiemaine.bsky.social · 12/09/2026

365 Albums from 1986 254. Ric Ocasek - This Side of Paradise There are enough contributions from fellow bandmates to almost make this one a de facto Cars album. Steve Stevens adds some nice guitar work, & there are a few decent tunes here, but overall it’s lacking in spark.

365 Albums from 1986 253. This Mortal Coil - Filigree & Shadow Ambient mood (?) music which I just wasn’t in the mood for. At 75 minutes long this was a chore to get through.

365 Albums from 1986 252. Billy Bragg - Talking with the Taxman About Poetry Outstanding mix of sex, love, and politics by one of the best singer/songwriters to ever do it. Greetings to the New Brunette is an all-time favorite.

365 Albums from 1986 251. Ratt - Dancing Undercover Serviceable glam metal album, I think. It all kinda ran together. I looked up once and it was on track 3 and I looked up later and it was on track 8 and I couldn’t remember anything in between.

365 Albums from 1986 250. The Human League - Crash I had no idea that Human was written by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. The 3 tracks they wrote are the clear standouts. The other 2 (I Need Your Loving & Love Is All That Matters) sound like songs they had left over from Janet Jackson’s Control album.
