Very 🤔 from the Guardian. A shame because the piece delves into aspects of the trial we didn’t have room for (as we used up a lot of word count revealing how Delo took control of Power’s property after the trial etc) www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Amazing how many times Gordon Rayner of the Telegraph has front-run more critical reporters’ Reform scoops this year. Spoilers-as-a-service.

top-tier financial memeage from @sindap.bsky.social on Apollo www.ft.com/content/98d0...
Nathan Fielder serves a dish of nothing to illustrate the poor experiences Wall Street creditors have had negotiating with Apollo portfolio companies.

I had been hoping to have a Black Velvet in Sweetings in Nige's honour for lunch, but it's sadly still closed for renovations. Had to settle for fish and chips and a Guinness in the Sugar Loaf nextdoor 🫠

I mean Michael Crick tweeted about it a couple of days ago, so journalists who saw that knew something of this nature was imminent yeah

Amazing this guy pre-emptively satirised Pearson’s tweet several days earlier!

Robert Smith @bondhack.ft.com · 09/08/2026
Wow: Allison Pearson is obviously too modest to be overt about this, but a close reading of this tweet indicates she got into Cambridge having attended a comprehensive school. Truly grateful she shared her humble perspective on this!

Gotta hand it to Jason: he always gave it 110%!
“The findings include false funding declarations; participant quotes that appear to have been taken from another researcher’s own analysis; and “impossible” samples, such as a breakdown of his participants’ genders, which adds up to 110 per cent.”

Although I should say, if you read the full story, the police warned the journalist to stop contacting Arday. Which is absolutely crazy (the reporter was doing his job!) and may be a contributing factor in killing the story.

Yeah, also if you read the full story, the police warned the journalist to stop contacting Arday. Which is absolutely crazy (the reporter was doing his job!) and may be a contributing factor in killing the story.

Louis Theroux, whose production company Mindhouse made the poorly reviewed documentary HOW TO GET FILTHY RICH: WITH GARY STEVENSON, has a surprising new podcast guest: Gary Stevenson! During the episode, Stevenson opens up about the heavy burden of being able to consistently predict the future.

yeah, i've said this already on here, but I was just trying to summarise what he says in the book as briefly as possible:

No. I went to a comprehensive school (which I believe is now an academy). And the bit re other students being better at "networking" etc is just a gloss on the phenomenon Gary describes in the book

Robert Smith @bondhack.ft.com · 21/07/2026
It's just an accurate gloss on the book! Here's the bit where he describes realising that the strength of his grades alone would not be enough to get a job at a bank and the more clued up students were playing a different game to him.

The new Insight team's long read on Posh George is obviously a tour de force. But it's also a great lesson in how much nonsense is hiding in plain sight. Such an edge for news organisations willing to take the time and effort to dig that little bit deeper and do a proper job.

Honoured to give some career advice to a talented young journalist on the up earlier this week. Keep at it @lionelbarber.bsky.social and maybe one day too you could be the FT's Corporate Finance Editor. Friends have made meanspirited comparisons to this pic, but I look nothing like Sean Connery imo

BDO, obviously, strongly pushed back on this characterisation of their audit practices. Gift link below, good for 300 clicks 🎁 as.ft.com/r/396d541d-7...
Screenshot of BDO statement in FT story:

In a statement, a BDO spokesperson said the examiners did not interview BDO personnel or review their audit records as part of the investigation, and that the report “reaches inappropriate and factually inaccurate conclusions about our audit work based on hearsay from individuals involved in the fraud”.

It added that its audits were performed in line with professional audit standards.
