probably pissing in the rain, but I went to google maps and right clicked on Lake Ontario to select "Add a Missing Place" and filled it out for "Lake Ontario"

I don't expect there's anything actually deficient in Safari, so it seems pretty self-dealing for #Google to offer a checkbox where GAFYD admins can insist that gmail only be used from Chrome
"Your organization recommends Chrome for safe app access"
which popped up when I opened work GMail this morning (in Safari)

This is a great infographic about which Python versions are in active development, getting bug fixes, getting security patches only, or past end-of-life. Nobody should be on Python 3.9 anymore @developer.apple.com ಠ_ಠ [from www.python.org/downloads/ ]

I don't want millions of people to change their clocks, I want businesses and institutions that care about sunrise to change their start times. This is what sunrise/sunset does in my timezone, with time change bolson.org/sungraph/
a graph of sunrise/solar-noon/sunset times over 2026. sunrise varies from 5:05am to 7:16am; sunset from 4:11pm to 8:25pm

Hakeem Jeffries thinks reasonable people can disagree about whether it's okay for ICE to full stream bearspray in the face of someone they're kneeling on. I think the D party should be less polite. (Photo by Richard Tsong-Taatarii/The Minnesota Star Tribune)

public science and public data is good! this is three National Weather Service stations near where I am that I scrape to give myself a sense of what the last two weeks of weather has been. I can do this because the data is free
three wiggly lines for temperatures from -20 to 10 deg C; blue dots for daily rain amounts, light blue dots for snow daily accumulation. X axis is two weeks of dates ending 2025-12-31

The Onion only a minute behind NPR
My feed a moment ago with NPR noting the passing of Architect Frank Gehry, and The Onion also responding to the moment by re posting some of its prior Frank Gehry coverage consisting of a pile of sandwiches in an impractical configuration - reminiscent of Gehry's more absurd buildings

Solar: angle matters! I had a frame that held my panels at a good angle, but last winter it collapsed. Panels survived and did okay flat on the ground. Propped them up under a random box and output went 350W -> 500W (out of 800W)
solar panels in a meadow, the panels are propped up one one edge by a 55 gal plastic box to point more towards the sun

Listening to some #Buddhism and it finally hits me: all the enlightenment stories together form a body of Survivorship Bias. We miss the stories of all who meditated and left because it wasn't for them, or they got tired, or bored, or busy with something else, or depressed, or insane.
