There are so many reasons to hate Spotify if we care about music. But every time someone (artists, labels or users) quits Spotify not because of that but because the CEO invested in a company that is helping Ukraine defend itself I feel like, as an European, I'm being betrayed

010

bolachas @bolachas.org · 27/07/2025

This is a correct take but I would not single out Spotify. All other mainstream streaming services are guilty of different degrees of the same issues. I like that your issues with it are related to how they devalue music and artists and not because of Ek's (good) investments in European defense.

Not Bill Fay, man. Bill Fay. This fucking week. One of the greatest to ever do it. My first and only choice every time a festival/promoter asks “who should we book next year?” (like they’re gonna consider it) knowing damn well he never played a single show in his career. Rest easy.

One of the best festivals around for people who enjoy guitars btw. Sure, you're gonna see this pic and ask "who?", but the truth is I had more than my government-mandated amount of fun last year

Will 2025 be the year the “indie music industry” gets rid of the scourge of the 3rd and 4th and 5th “advance single” from a 10 track record and the vomit-inducing gimmicky marketeer discourse about “album cycles” that makes artistry sound like a brand

Last playlist of the year since basically nobody dares to release albums in December, there's barely any non-seasonal new tracks, and you're not gonna listen to a new music playlist on the 25th of December or 1st of January, so this is it. I had no idea White Denim had a new album coming out!
