This delightful roses flowers over a long period - bought as a low climber but it does prefer a more bushing habit.🌱

I can't answer that question but feel it must be becoming a challenge as autumn progresses. I did see one or two struggling across the flower in a half drunken or incapable way.

Yes the earlier flowering was so brief because of the heat. But everything’s taken on a new lease of life now. No much how much we water, we’re helping plants to survive, they need rain to thrive.

Yes I'm always struck by this. You need to be careful you aren't tripped by the roots of an ancient Ash has over the year and a Poplar's roots have become hazardous for the lawn mower.s

I use it as the main ingredient in home made compost mixes, with the other ingredients depending on the seed or seedling involved. Also some pots.

Bagging up this compost to use in my compost mixes next spring. I’m using a mini New Zealand box made with recycled plastic boards which my firm used in a home composting demo reader up in conjunction with Scottish Borders Council.🌱

Processing tomato crop from the polythene. After rendering down tomatoes in oil, salt and pepper, I mouli the liquid and bottle for the freezer. There's always enough for soups, stews etc to last till the next harvest.🌱

Yes. Our apples are coming too early and lack their expected flavour. As they start falling and are eaten by a variety of animals and birds. As we're going away in 10 days some will have to be picked if we're to get any crop at all.
010
Dave Allan @boddave.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
They become dry and stringy, so as you say, you need to pick young. I often do this as they are tastier and I can hardly keep up with pod production anyway!

Dave Allan @boddave.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Very much so Gordon. Fresh plantings are struggling, many shrubs and trees are casting stems to conserve water and energy, some seeds are too hot to germinate….
010
Dave Allan @boddave.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Very much so and normally tasty apples are often near tasteless.

Dave Allan @boddave.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Apple pressing again. I’ve noticed the apples are less juicy than usual, probably because of the long dry spell. Other crops like runner beans are much ‘drier’. Has anyone else noticed this? It’s been a funny year for crops.🌱

Fair enough - I got the wrong impression of where you were heading. I thought you were suggesting my followers would leave in droves if I rabbited on about the Saltire. Total misunderstanding!

It's fun making the frame from poles I can cut as required, but it's pretty laborious as you can imagine, so I use the structure for a couple of years. With a goodly supply of coppice here, I enjoy making this kind of thing!

We came back home to a jungle of runners, but since we refuse to contaminate the palate with huge stringy pods, it's much better to let them fully grow and pod them for the freezer. Delicious. OK you get fewer pods but we've too many anyway.🌱
