Biden was responsible for a genocide during his presidency. It was beyond him “not moving far enough left”

This is why euphemisms exist in the first place! They are factually correct but put a positive spin on things, that’s literally what they are. The idea that euphemisms are “factual” whereas direct speech is “judgmental” shows that they mistake tone for neutrality

I think the interviewee misses a really important point here: language *cannot* be neutral, is signals how to interpret things no matter what. Euphemisms like “obscures the truth” are ideological even if they are also factual, and signal that respectability and norms are still to be maintained

It’s odd because it’s paired with an increasingly eugenicist anti-Autism shift from other right-wing areas. I wonder how much these two stances are in relation to each other

Also they tried very hard to cover it up so it’s pretty much the opposite of public

I don’t really think it’s safe to assume that but even ceding that point, do they share their methodology for how they calculate inflation?

Plus of course the standing issue with this is that it’s for full-time employees which leaves out independent contractors (including misclassified ones), unemployed people, self-employed people, part-time people, etc. who make up a not insignificant part of the population

Something that jumps out at me here is that they say these wages are pre-deductions, and as we don’t know what methodology they are using to calculate “real wages,” it’s not a sure thing that they are capturing all changes accurately. If they have their methodology for inflation that would be better

What source are you using for this?

I agree with that, but it doesn’t answer the question re: Platner.
000
Bocyeubya @bocyeubya.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Then why did Schumer endorse Platner after he won the ME primary but didn’t endorse Mamdani after he won the NYC primary?

Bocyeubya @bocyeubya.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Jackson was running in another race. They chose Mills because she wasn’t running for anything else and was liked in Maine

That’s what it looks like when they really don’t like a guy

Bocyeubya @bocyeubya.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Jackson just happened to be in the right place in the right time. I would invite people to think about Mills getting into the race and then dropping out and Platner getting Schumer’s endorsement vs. Mamdani not getting his endorsement *after* winning the primary and Cuomo running third party

Bocyeubya @bocyeubya.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
I think the dems were mostly fine with Platner and they backed off the other candidate after the major scandals broke, thinking it looked like he was going to win (hence Mills dropping out pre-primary). They didn’t think people would eventually turn on him and were surprised when they did

Bocyeubya @bocyeubya.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
True, he recruited her after she announced her plan to retire then she ran a very lazy campaign - didn’t go to events, didn’t travel to towns - and then dropped out early. Does it seem like they opposed Platner, or does it seem like they weren’t sure if the scandals would sink him and were hedging?

Much to be said about the rise of stoicism and minimalism as men experience downward mobility. These frameworks give masculinity ideological scaffolding for how to still be The Captains of Their Fates/“take personal responsibility” as they experience greater precarity

I lived in Russia for a time and the Russian self-conception of how the world saw them was a bunch of backwards peasants who couldn’t get things right and sometimes I didn’t have the heart to tell them we actually think they are evil incarnate

He also loves Les Mis, but yes, there’s something profoundly fitting about Trump’s love of Cameron Mackintosh and Mackintosh’s proclivity for formalism and soaring drama

What games? I asked you if you think there are any examples of capitalism that aren’t don’t display the character of cronyism. Do you?

Bocyeubya @bocyeubya.bsky.social · 25/07/2026
This doesn’t answer my question

Bocyeubya @bocyeubya.bsky.social · 25/07/2026
What are examples of capitalism that don’t have the crony aspect?

What is crony capitalism?

Putinist isn’t an economic model. I would recommend reading Naomi Klein’s The Shock Doctrine if you would like an understanding of relevant changes in Russia’s economic model. It also includes a number of examples of capitalist ideology resulting in mass death

Bocyeubya @bocyeubya.bsky.social · 24/07/2026
Hold up, do you think Russia is currently communist?

Capitalism is a system, it’s not embodied in one person, and I imagine you understand that based on the fact that you talk about regulation. The system of capitalism produced slavery, because slavery is a way to gain power under capitalism. Do you disagree?

True, the change probably had a lot to do with it, not denying that. Just using an example where % is small but the actual number’s big I think the more compelling point is that each person in poverty is a real person, so % is limited. Also obvs min wage is not the only thing driving dour sentiment
000
Bocyeubya @bocyeubya.bsky.social · 21/07/2026
Percentages have limits; there are occasions when absolute numbers matter. Take COVID deaths; they only affected .37% of the US. True, small overall, but it still changed public sentiment, right? Plus obviously minimum wage is only one small piece of the US-economic-model-creating-privatizing pie

Thinking these guys are secretly gay supports the same version of masculinity these guys believe in. One that thinks normal homosocial relationships imply homoeroticism and/or feminize men It isn’t actually gay or something when men want to impress other men, esp men who think women are below them

r/conspiracy says this, but I think both things can be true at once
Screenshot from r/conspiracy sub: Where are the sacrifice conspiracists/occult believers. The sudden death of Lindsay Graham and the sudden resurrection of Mitch McConnell like something worth looking at. The Creep State.

I have my own definition of left but honestly it’s irrelevant. What I want to know is the author’s definition
010
Bocyeubya @bocyeubya.bsky.social · 13/07/2026
I don’t think there will ever be a single definition, which is why I think people writing about this group should define their terms. Otherwise, people just fill in the blanks with their own definition of “the left.” This isn’t a new point, but it appears to still be one worth making
100
Bocyeubya @bocyeubya.bsky.social · 13/07/2026
I agree it would be harder to poll, but I still think it’s worth clarifying when using these kinds of terms. There are probably dems in that poll who *don’t* identify as “the left” but are still be counted as such

I don’t know. I get what you’re saying, but I also think, eg, Warren is closer to Collins than some leftists are to Warren. I wish we could define terms because there’s the US left-starts-at-dem concept and then there’s the bigger left-starts-at-anticapitalist concept and these are quite different

What about the substantial primary win or the numerous endorsements?

Bocyeubya @bocyeubya.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
Not really. There are multiple factions within dem politics, but all of them are within the Democratic Party and benefit that apparatus

He won 72% in the primary, was launched on Pod Save, and was endorsed by Chuck Schumer? Like, I don’t know about the finances, but it wasn’t like he was a dem outsider. He harnessed the anger the base felt towards centrist dems and directed it towards… voting Democrat
