I regard myself as much a "painter of light", as a photographer. I've reworked this piece a number of different ways and this is the latest version, and possibly the most satisfying to me

A couple who ran the deli near my apartment in Astoria NYC when I was growing up in the late 50s. Check out those prices.

I haven't posted much, if any of my architectural photography. So I'll give it a try. The Science Building at San Jose City College. A very economical yet elegant design by tBP architects.

Keep getting new followers, but almost no one seems to be interacting with me and my photos. Am I missing something?

An example of my light use of Ai in Photoshop to salvage an otherwise throw away slide. The hummingbird was blurred beyond recognition, so I put in a new one. I never have ai make my images, It's an occasional tool to help my vision.

This artwork, titled Gray and Gold (1942), by American artist John Rogers Cox, showcases the Regionalist style with ominous, towering storm clouds over a vibrant golden wheat field.
Historical Context: Cox painted this masterpiece shortly after the United States entered World War II following the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Imagery: It depicts meticulous, geometric amber waves of grain contrasting sharply against massive, menacing storm clouds. The Crossroad: In the foreground, an intersection of two dirt lanes forms a crossroad. The primary telephone pole is plastered with political campaign posters.Symbolism: The landscape serves as an analogy for war. The dark, looming sky signifies the threat of Fascism, while the crossroad implies that American democracy stands at a critical historical junction.Unusual Detail: There are no wires connecting the telephone poles. Art historians often interpret this omission as a commentary on the breakdown of global diplomacy and communication during the war.

1950s Baltimore. Fuzzy, hand held very long exposure. The dark side of street photography, I suppose. Still a capture of life that's hardly always pretty. #streetphotography #alcoholic #passedout #drunk #real

I did a lot of editorial work for a variety of magazines, one of which was the National Trust for Historic Preservation. This is Knight's Foundry in the Gold country of California. It's lathes and other equipment was powered by water. Dates back to the Gold Rush. #historic #Foundry #Preservation

I, as most New Yorkers, took the subway a lot. It's an amazing transportation network and has been for ages. What possessed me to take this shot, I'll never exactly know. Just glad I did. #1950s #streetphotography

We called this place the water slide. On the side of Mount Humphreys, the cracks in the granite had countless streams flowing down into Muriel Lake below. And the view wasn't too bad either. #mountain #landscape #nature #landscapephotography #sierra bobswansonart.com/home

An experiment with colonization. Leonard Bernstein on a smoke break at an open rehearsal at Carnegie Hall, around 1958. On some Saturdays you could walk in and spend a few hours watching the NY Philharmonic Orchestra rehearse for free. #leonarndbernstien #1950s

Shopping on the weekend in the Astoria, NYC neighborhood where I grew up. We had great food and didn't worry about it poisoning us. Certainly there were huge problems in the world. Racism, misogyny, etc, but, most people tried to be rational and good. Today, it seems, we've lost the rational part.

The East River in the 1950s had raw sewage dumped into it. Not the best idea to swim in it. Not to mention dangerous currents. Me... I just took pictures. #1950s #boys #newyork #playing #streetphotography bobswansonart.com/home
