a new blog post "Learning what to softwarize": bobaekang.com/blog/learnin... a follow-up to my last two posts on coding agents. agents not only accelerate learning about existing software, but also expand what we can bring into software. this changes what that learning is for.

Learning what to softwarize | bobae kang
Coding agents accelerate not only how organizations understand their software, but how they discover what else is worth expressing through software

> Our industry has quietly started broadcasting conclusions where it used to transmit arguments. 100% agreed that this is bad for the industry. when combined with increasing reliance on LLMs, the end result is the pit of the status quo, and we learn little from it.

a new blog post "The message of coding agents": bobaekang.com/blog/the-mes... with capable coding agents, many people are rushing to build software factories. but i want to ask a different question: what is software, and what should become software in the first place?

The message of coding agents | bobae kang
The message of coding agents is not automation, but the expansion of what organizations can express through software.

a new blog post "The value is in learning, not execution" is out: bobaekang.com/blog/the-val... this summarizes my current attitude toward coding agents. don't skip understanding just because AI can code faster. generate more code to accelerate learning, not execution.

new blog post, "a normie software engineer in the age of code generation" bobaekang.com/blog/a-normi... putting down what i've been thinking lately. ai may write code, but i'm still accountable for my work. plus, we have the tools and techniques to handle mass code generation by LLM.

do both uber and lyft really play video ads on the ride tracking screen? i work in ads too but that looks real bad if true. not everyone has unlimited data, and they eat through your data, making it expensive to monitor your ride and stay safe

i thought 'use server'/'use client' were about new react. turns out, they're meant to offer a new model for UI programming. in fact, react was always meant to offer a new model for UI programming--composing components. now react tells us we can compose computers.

it's telling that so many people are using 4o to generate ghibli-style images. the latest ai excels at imitating, and that's plenty useful. but it can't create something original that touches our hearts. at least not yet.

evidence for impedance mismatch between react's own vision for itself and how people use it in real world. provided rationale for recommending frameworks is totally fair. it's just that react is used in more ways than what it expects.
