I've said it before and I'll say it again: If you get rid of the assumption of omniscience, then even if you leave in omnipotence and omnibenevolence, Leibnizian optimism is now compatible with the possibility that we live in the dumbest of all possible worlds.

The $10,000 she's saving that "small town of 900 people" on their road salt is... hold on, let me get my abacus... eleven bucks per person. What's that for, the year? And how much per person is everything she and the rest of the GOP costing them?

Both could be true! Seems entirely possible -- or at least I would hope -- that at this point, getting the base excited is absolutely toxic to the non-base, including to the less fervent portion of typical GOPers.

Absolutely. Only about 1% of the stuff that's not in the original Klingon is at all worthwhile.

Me too, but honestly I'm not entirely convinced that "publicly give out the personal phone number of someone who has pissed me off and tell all my fans to call him" is demonstrative of anything but who he is and always has been

Makes sense. I mean, he DID ace that IQ test where he had to draw the face of a clock and correctly identify that the animal in the picture was a giraffe

Not only was I unfamiliar with this piece of Palmer Luckey lore, but also I was unfamiliar with Palmer Luckey! So, after reading the article, I looked him up on Wikipedia... and I have to admit that I am still not entirely convinced that he is not an op-ed columnist for The Onion.

This seems like a good place to share my longstanding dream of a new and better form of basketball
Sixteen overlapping basketball courts arranged radially, centered on their mutual center circleAbe Simpson speaking out loud words from a letter he is typing: "I am not a crackpot."

"New" ethics concerns? I mean, even ignoring the general ethics concerns that are associated with him, there's the fact that he previously hawked meme NFTs, and in doing so promised "investors" stuff like a dinner with him if they bought a certain amount. What "new" concerns are there here?

Seems like this strategy worked very well for them in the past, though? I don't really have any example off the top of my head,* but "Conservatives are outraged that John J. Randomdude is personally destroying America by doing some random thing" seems like a go-to for them, no? *: not enough coffee

Republicans can too! ... I mean, if they get over their craven party-before-basic-decency nature. ... You know what, just forget I mentioned it. IDK what the hell I was thinking ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Man, you've got significantly more self-control on such things than I do. It's uncommon but not really rare for me to start a script that tells me it'll be done in, say, ten days. And I can't stop myself from checking it over and over. "Still ten days". I'm like a kid in a car going to Disneyland.

The book I'm currently reading has an entire chapter entitled "Education and the Cult of Muscular Christianity". I haven't gotten to that part yet, and I've since learned that it's a fairly old term, but it was new to me. That book? "On the Psychology of Military Incompetence" 🤔

One of my pet peeves, as someone who long ago played Rogue, NetHack, Moria, Angband, etc. etc., is that it sometimes seems like every video game nowadays is called "Roguelike". I get that the term doesn't need to be as specific as I would prefer, but I feel like it's now so vague as to be useless.

And that's just in the past six days! Every day, he asks the FBI's extra special Ka$hAI if he should shoot up a school. And every day, the agent assigned to dress up like a robot says "BEEP BEEP BEEP PROCESSING INSIGHTFUL QUESTION... BEEP BEEP BEEP... ANSWER CALCULATED: NO! BEEP BEEP BOOP BEEP BOOP"

I can't help but notice that "paid back" does not necessarily imply "paid back in a direct sense by giving money". However, I can't help but notice that my explanation here presupposes that Donald Trump said something true, even if only in a misleading way. So... I dunno what to think ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I particularly liked this rather ho-hum summary from the Chippewa Daily Herald, which reads to me kind of like a public notice that someone applied to the town for an exception to be allowed build a fence half an inch taller than the zoning rules otherwise allow:
Clipping from the Chippewa Daily Herald, September 17, 1926:

MINNESOTA FARMER KICKS WOLF TO DEATH

Hibbing, Minn., Sept. 17 - Frank Ansley, one of Hibbing's early mayors, kicked a timber wolf to death today at his farm near here.
