Poor implementation of the #CFP continues to harm low-impact fishers. Quotas are required to be allocated using envi & social criteria. Yet large vessels still take the biggest share. It's time Member States fully implement the #CFP! #RethinkFisheries #EUFisheries 🌊 seas-at-risk.org/publications...

The safest and most effective choice is clear: ➡️ Do not reopen the CFP ➡️ Enforce it ➡️ Defend science-based decision-making ➡️ Hold Member States accountable for the rules they already agreed to

Bruno Nicostrate @bnicostrate.bsky.social · 30/01/2026
A weakened CFP would contradict growing public concern for climate and biodiversity. We are ready to mobilise.

Bruno Nicostrate @bnicostrate.bsky.social · 30/01/2026
✔ Climate action can be delivered through full implementation of ecosystem-based fisheries management. ✔ Decarbonisation is possible within existing capacity ceilings. ✔ The landing obligation failed politically, not legally—and removing it would remove the only real accountability tool we have.
100
Bruno Nicostrate @bnicostrate.bsky.social · 30/01/2026
📢 Some claims need debunking. Arguments that the CFP must be reopened to address climate change, increase capacity ceilings for decarbonisation, or scrap the landing obligation don’t hold up.

Bruno Nicostrate @bnicostrate.bsky.social · 30/01/2026
That uncertainty undermines generational renewal, accelerates the decline of coastal communities, and fuels populism.
100
Bruno Nicostrate @bnicostrate.bsky.social · 30/01/2026
📢 A revision would also create years of legal uncertainty. Negotiations would take years, implementation would stall, and fishers, especially small-scale and coastal fishers, would pay the price. They need action now, not prolonged uncertainty.

Commission’s control, exposing it to conflicting interests and an ideological race to the bottom. The last reform reduced overfishing; reopening the policy risks undoing that progress.
100
Bruno Nicostrate @bnicostrate.bsky.social · 30/01/2026
📢 Reopening the CFP also carries a serious risk of deregulation. In today’s political climate, “simplification” too often means weaker sustainability standards. Environmental policy has become a battleground, and reopening the CFP would take the file out of the

The latest AGRIFISH decisions on the WestMed are a clear example. A reform will not fix this. Countries that refuse to comply with the rules today won't suddenly support stronger or clearer rules tomorrow. Weak compliance does not become strong compliance through revision.
100
Bruno Nicostrate @bnicostrate.bsky.social · 30/01/2026
We see this repeatedly at AGRIFISH Council: 🔹 Scientific advice ignored 🔹 Agreed safeguards bypassed 🔹 Even basic rules, like the 5% Blim threshold in multiannual plans (aka the ultimate limit before fish is gone), set aside

Bruno Nicostrate @bnicostrate.bsky.social · 30/01/2026
🚨🐟 The Common Fisheries Policy doesn’t need reform. It needs implementation. 💪👮 In 2021, the EU Commission itself concluded that the CFP is fit for purpose. What’s failing today is not the policy design, but the lack of political will by countries to apply and enforce it.
