'Road to the Farm.' (1944) I find it difficult to think of any British landscape painter of Rowland Hilder's generation (he was born in 1905) whose work is as widely known but whose name is not. His work touched a strain of nostalgia for an unchanged and unchanging landscape.

all my notes on my outline were accidentally washed away by a loose water bottle; then scrivener nearly deleted a chunk of the script... even if this happens a third time, ill write it all again to avoid having to draw, probably 🤡

In 1924, the year this picture of the Grand Canyon was painted, Gunnar Widforss exhibited a large group of works depicting scenes from US National Parks. An art critic at the time considered Widforss as 'possibly the greatest watercolorist in America today.'

the more time that passes, and the more books I work on, the more I regret giving away the HP books I cherished as a kid, not for them as stories but as objects that I had marked up, messed up etc. gave them away on FB in my childhood neighborhood. they’re cumbersome in all ways so it’s for the best

it’s taken 6+ months but I finally reread the umpteenth pass on my outline. Ofc the last chapter is out-of-order bullet points, and a note to “CONTINUE TO ORIGINAL END”….. ty past me I doubt it’s that simple

venus in capricorn turns four years old this month, so I'm posting the full comic here to celebrate. 1/15
Front cover for 'Venus in Capricorn' by Jules Valera. Drawn in black and white, the outline of their face is barely visible through a flurry of snow and noise. A row of empty white panels lines the bottom of the image.Black page with the outline of a frayed rope net in the middle. A tiny snowflake melts delicately on the edge. Text reads VENUS in CAPRICORN - After the passing of a long, dark season, the reflection speaks.

Writers, publishing will suck all the joy and light from your life if you let it. So don't let it. This week, on Undercover in the Apocalypse: my dreams came true, but I just found new ways to be miserable. undercover-in-the-apocalypse.ghost.io/my-dreams-ca...

In a 1966 issue of the New York Herald Tribune, Tom Wolfe wrote an essay titled "The Secret Vice." The essay is about how straight men of means were obsessed with custom tailoring. But since an interest in clothing was too embarrassing to openly share with others, they often guarded it.

Someone took issue with me saying that American male Protestants are unique in how they've removed themselves from aesthetics. I thought it was obvs that I'm talking about fashion and interior decor, which today are coded as "gay interests," not paintings or architecture. But let me elaborate. 🧵
Someone posted a video of a husband and wife shopping for interior decor. They wrote: "when will people finally acknowledge the epidemic of men marrying women and being turned gay."

Matt Walsh retweeted them and added: "Dudes like this were already gay. I’ve been married for 14 years and have never been home decor shopping, or even had an opinion on the subject, except for the one time when I had a painting custom made depicting me meeting a group of space aliens. It’s now hanging above a fireplace in our home."

I screenshot Walsh's comment and added: "For a while, it was believed that women and gay men are born with a natural sense for aesthetics. In reality, straight men, particularly American male Protestants, have simply barred themselves from taking an interest in aesthetics bc they think this makes them noble."

Finally, someone retweeted me and added: "Why does anyone listen to what this idiot has to say about aesthetics?" They attached a photo of Edward Hopper's 1942 painting "Nighthawks."
