Lets not mince words. We are not moving toward authoritarianism, we have arrived, and Trump is unpacking.

It's also a shame that people take time to throw barbs at celebrities who did not participate--their names are as numerous as their excuses are rare--instead of praising those who did not. You can't know the reasons some had for skipping this one. Perhaps their reasons are good. So why attack?

The veep has the power to go to the cabinet and invoke the 25th amendment. I'm actually surprised that JD doesn't do it. He has been loyal for long enough that he could pretend that this wasn't a power play (even if it was), just his constitutional duty. But it's not too late...

a modest proposal: let's stop using the verb "to trump" and instead say "to beat" or, really, anthing else.

we don't need to pass more laws, we need to enforce the laws we have.

I don't advise you to hold your breath until those laws are passed.

If the final battle is a battle of wits, Trump does not stand a chance. Even if, as always, he cheats he still does not stand a chance as long as we stand strong.

we give a fuck and are glad that the "real world" also does. btw, we are the real world, just having a bit of a bad spell. That should be familiar to Europeads who remember their own history. So maybe cool it on your superior tone.

Does Pete expect the unregistered military to vote for the man who sent them into a senseless, endless war. A man who does not support the troops he has deployed in this war? A man who called soldiers losers and who can't imagine why someone would risk their lives as a, uh, warrior

This feels like the kind of thing they played to reprogram Malcom McDowell in Clockwork Orange. Didn't work too well there, if I recall.

If Cuba is on such bad shape why not help them back in their feet. The billions you save from not fighting them could be used to help rebuild them, and the result would be a friend instead of a hostile enemy. The dreaded communist you fear would not be welcome in the new Cuba that you could build.

the reason that oil prices were briefly higher under Biden in 2022 had nothing to do with his policies. It was the sudden rise in demand for oil as the Covid pandemic wound down. The current crisis is entirely the fault of one man, Donald Trump, who started a war of choice... his foolish choice.

When your house is burning is not the time to ask who started the fire. You concentrate on stopping the fire. Blame is not the way to solve problems.

He clearly has taken lying lessons from Donald Trump, his Supreme Leader. Oil passing through the Strait of Hormuz is nowhere near pre-war levels. the price of diesal began to rise with our invasion of Iran and has not signifcantly increased its rise since Ukraine attacked Russian refineries.

It's a little soon to claim that Trump has succeeded. Failure is still waiting in the wings for him, and we are all here to make it happen. At least that is what I tell myself every day.
010
Bruce S. @bmschech.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
I'm not as interested in assigning blame to those who made Trump possible. But right now, for whatever reason, Trump is the problem with whom we must deal. When your house is burning down, it doesn't matter who started the fire. What matters is putting out the blaze.

so can an animatronic robot from Disneyland. Giving a thumb up is not a qualification for being in congress. The ability to understand speech and respond intelligently is and if McConnell can't do that he must be removed. I'm not asking a lot, only that he past a congressional Turing test.

It's not like a math exam where you have to have the right answer and show you're work, prove you have all the right reasons. In elections all you have to do is have the right answer for whatever reasons you want. No explanations necessary.

I think Trump is very afraid, all of the time and one of his biggest fears is looking afraid. Hence his bluster. He is also afraid of losing, which is why he can never admit it when he does. And, oddly, he is terrified of sharks.

2/ And I trust because I know and understand scientists-- what they do, why they do it and their dedication to facts. Trump understands none of this and believes that climate change must be a hoax based on nothing but his uneducated, low IQ intuitions.
